This course will focus on world events from 600 C.E. to present day, with special emphasis on the growth of the political, economic, and social institutions around the world and the relationship of past events to current situations.</p><p>Course format: this class meets for 45 minutes, everyday for one semester.</p><p>Text: World History; Pearson</p><p>Student needs the following supplies: 2” 3-ring binder Paper, Pen/Pencil 8 notebook dividers- for each of the units Computer & Internet access Notecards Grades (format per quarter) Your grade is based on a point system. So, how do you figure out your grade? Total points earned/total points possible = total percentage points</p><p>Assignments that will factor into your quarter grade are: </p><p>Projects/ Tests (50-100 pts.) Students will take an assessment at the end of every chapter. These are not cumulative—just what we cover in that chapter. You will be required to take cumulative District exams every quarter and one at the end of the semester. You will have a project for each quarter. </p><p>Quizzes (10-20 pts.) You will be quizzed both in class and on Edmodo. Be prepared for quizzes, they will be frequent. They may or may not be open book/open note. </p><p>Homework/classwork (10-50 pts.) Any and all work that is to be completed at home or in class will fall under this category. Unannounced notebook checks will be included in this section. </p><p>Notecards (25-100 pts.) You will complete notecards for all the important historical terms in the given section. You may be able to use these on open note quizzes/tests so if you don’t do them- you won’t have them!  Keep the notecards as we finish each unit and throughout the year! </p><p>Class participation (10-100 pts.) You must come prepared to class with your materials. If there is group work and/or discussion, you will be required to participate and will be graded on it. </p><p>Your notebook will be divided into 8 Sections: 6 sections for each Unit we cover as well as 1 for review and 1 for Important Documents. I WILL check notebooks for a participation grade in order to ensure they are being adequately kept. Class Rules: 1. RESPECT all things & people in our classroom 2. Be on time, in your seat & ready when the bell rings. Excessive tardiness will not be tolerated. 3. No food or drink in the classroom. 4. Hall passes – 3 per quarter– none the first 15 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class – no exceptions. 5. No electronic devices. . </p><p>CONSEQUENCES: If YOU CHOOSE to break a rule: FIRST OFFENSE – A warning from the instructor. SECOND OFFENSE – A seat change, individual conference, referral to a counselor, and/or parental notification. THIRD OFFENSE – Referral to the administration for disciplinary action. </p><p>NOTE: Depending on the severity of the offense, a referral to the administration may occur at ANY time! * The deliberate abuse or misuse of the classroom of the classroom and/or materials contained in it will result in a written apology to the teacher and time spent before school cleaning or repairing the vandalized items. ** A negative behavior report from a substitute teacher will automatically result in a warning from the instructor.</p><p>TARDINESS AND LATE ARRIVALS Tardiness to class is disruptive to the learning process and shows a disregard for the rights of others. A student who is not ON TIME AND IN THEIR SEAT is considered either late or tardy. A student is tardy with no pass and late with a pass. Tardy and late students need to sign-in at the clipboard located at the front of the room, and are not to disrupt the class. Late students need to pin their pass to the wall above the clipboard. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass. The tardy penalty is as follows – 1st Tardy = Warning, 2nd Tardy = 20 minutes detention before school, 3rd Tardy = Parental notification, 30 minutes before school. Upon a 4th tardy and with each additional tardy you will be referred to the Dean for disciplinary action. Important information if you are absent: MAKE-UP TIME is 8:30 by APPOINTMENT. - YOU are responsible for the material discussed in class, this also includes days you are absent. If you miss an in-class test you must schedule a time to make them up AS SOON AS YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL. Make-ups are your responsibility. When you return you must come to see me in my classroom to sign up for your make-up. . - Make-ups may be different than the original format, which was given in class. - They must be taken in the designated allotted days. (i.e. a day to make-up work for each excused absent day) - In accordance to school policy, Excused absences will be able to receive 100% on the assignment; Unexcused absences will only be eligible for 50% of the total score. - It is your responsibility to pick up your assignments and turn in your work the day after you return from any excused absence. Being absent from class does not excuse you from doing the assignment. You must provide proper documentation in order for the absence to be excused. </p><p>Late Work No late work will be accepted. Extenuating circumstances, like a death in the family or a serious illness will be considered on an individual, one-time only basis, if allowed under the policy. This rule will be strictly adhered to. </p><p>Integrity -Don’t cheat!! If you do, you get a zero, and a mandatory parent/student/teacher meeting. - You must sign the Academic Integrity form for my class-these rules MUST be abided by. - What do I mean by “cheating”?? o Using any form of aid (i.e. notes, book, another person) during closed tests/quizzes o Looking (longer than a glance) at someone else’s quiz/test o Copying someone else’s homework, classwork, or notecards . This last part is important and where most students get caught—if you have ANY questions about this—ASK!!!
