<p> AMA National Aged Care Summit 11 –12 February 2004, Melbourne</p><p>GETTING THE FUTURE RIGHT: linking aged care and health</p><p>The AMA will be hosting a National Aged Care Summit in Melbourne on 11-12 February 2004 with the theme Getting the Future Right: linking aged care and health.</p><p>Purpose of Summit</p><p>To provide a forum:</p><p>1. for key issues to be raised by speakers knowledgeable in their respective fields 2. for key issues to be discussed by representatives of peak aged care & health bodies 3. for identifying key ‘next steps’ in Getting the Future Right.</p><p>Overview</p><p>The summit will provide an excellent opportunity to keep aged care and health as key issues on the political agenda, and advance positive policy options for the future.</p><p>Background</p><p>A successful summit, held just before the 2001 election, was instrumental in ensuring that aged care was a key social policy issue during the election campaign. As with the 2001 summit, the 2004 summit will be convened in partnership with the National Aged Care Alliance. The Alliance is an umbrella group of 23 aged care organisations representing consumers, unions, professional organisations and providers. The Alliance’s website is www.naca.asn.au. </p><p>Venue, timing and participation</p><p>The summit will be held in Melbourne on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February 2004. The venue will be the top floor of the Australian Unity Building, 114 Albert Road, South Melbourne. This is an excellent venue, provided by sponsorship from Australian Unity.</p><p>Participation will be by invitation, and include leading representatives from the aged care sector, academics, and Commonwealth and State Government representatives.
