ST CUTHMAN’S RETREAT CENTRE – SMALL GROUPS IN THE MAIN HOUSE Small groups (max 8 participants) seeking a ‘Quiet Day’ can occasionally be accommodated in the main house at St Cuthman’s. Facilities include the Florence Allshorn Meeting Room, Chapel, Library (silent), Dining Room (a silent option), Conservatory (non-silent), and grounds.

Day guests are welcome between 10.00am and 5.00pm. We ask that day visitors respect the quiet nature of the House when not using the meeting room and remember that residential guests will have come away for prayer, rest and renewal.

On arrival: We recommend that you park in the Garden Room Car Park at the far end of the drive (past the Main Car Park). There are signs on the drive – ‘Day Visitors (Garden Room) Parking’ – please follow these. If there is limited space, park on the grass to the left of the road exit, facing the fence and the big field. The house is at the opposite end of the main drive, so please walk all the way down. We do ask groups to aim to arrive together if possible. Access & footwear : The ground floor of the house is accessible to disabled guests. Some areas of the grounds are uneven and guests do need to be able to negotiate these safely. Many areas are not suitable for access by those with mobility issues or by wheelchair. The grounds: Guests are welcome to enjoy all areas of the grounds – the terrace, lawns, shrubbery, woodland, orchards and fields. We make every effort to minimise disturbance to our guests when carrying out garden maintenance but sometimes this is unavoidable. The Chapel : Guests are welcome to use the Chapel for personal prayer and to join other Guests for Mass when available – times are subject to variation, so please check in the House porch at the start of your day. The group leader is welcome to arrange group use of the Chapel via the booking form. Refreshments and Meals : Morning Coffee & Biscuits will be made available at 11.00am in the meeting room. Lunch is a hot Two-Course meal usually served at 1.00pm. This may change depending on other Groups / Guests in the House. You are free to eat individually in the silence of the Dining Room or together in the Conservatory. Afternoon Tea with Cake is served in the meeting room at 4.00pm. You need to inform us via the form overleaf of any special dietary needs (vegetarian or specific medical needs) – our menus are prepared taking the dietary needs of guests into account within sufficient notification time. Day guests who have requested a special diet should make themselves known to person serving lunch to ensure they get the appropriate meal. In Emergency : Should the fire alarm sound please vacate the House immediately – do not stop to take belongings with you - and go to the Assembly Point outside the Chapel. Telephones – Due to the limited signal / reception in the area and in keeping with the quiet nature of the House, we kindly ask Guests to ensure that the ringer on your mobile is silenced or your phone switched off during your stay. We have a pay phone available for outgoing calls. In the event of an emergency a message can be relayed to you via the general office number – 01403 741220. If you do need to use your mobile phone in the case of an emergency, we would be most grateful if you make your call in the area of the Farm Buildings past the Garden Room where reception is at its strongest. Smoking : We ask guests to take the greatest of care smoking in the grounds, and we provide a disposal container outside the back door of the House for the convenience of guests. Security : Entry to the House is via a key code system and the number will be given to you on arrival. Day visitors are asked not to let anyone else in. Bookings : A maximum of 8 people can be accommodated in the Florence Allshorn meeting room. Groups of more would need to book the Garden Rooms or Cardinal Cormac Meeting Room. Should your numbers increase please remember that these Rooms may not be available on your original date. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a booking in the unlikely event that operational reasons call for this. CANCELLATION POLICY As a small charity we are significantly affected by late cancellations.
