<p> COACHING SESSION PLANNER: INCREASING SCORING OPPORTUNITIES IN HURLING Date: 27/03/10 No. of Players: 16 Age Group: U16 Duration: 13-15min Equipment Used: Cones, bibs, 1 sliothar per player, whistle, stopwatch Aim of Session: To increase scoring opportunities in hurling by a) Striking ball over the bar on run, b) Working on first touch, c) Striking off both sides d) Drilling the ball over the bar, not lobbing e) striking ball over the bar over the shoulder at an angle EXPLANATION DIAGRAM Dill 1 – Scoring Points, striking left and right on the run i) Player on Team A and first player on Team B solo out their cone ii) Both players strike the ball low and hard to one another simultaneously iii) Both players gain procession by killing/cathing the ball iv) Team A players drills the ball on the run over the bar off his right hand side and Player B off his left v) Both players continue running and join the opposite line vi) The drill continues with the second player on both teams and so on vi) Drills lasts 3-4min</p><p>Drill 2 – Scoring points, striking left and right over the shoulder on the run i) First player on Team A and first player on Team B solo out to the cone ii) Each player drops the ball at that cone iii) Both players sprint to opposite cone iv) Both players jab lift the ball on the run and strike the ball over the bar at an angle over the shoulder v) Both players continue running and join the opposite line vi) The drill continues with the second player on both teams and so on vi) Drills lasts 3-4min </p><p>Drill 3 – Scoring points, striking left and right over the shoulder on the run i) First player on Team A and first player on Team B solo diagonally to opposite cone ii) Each player strikes the ball on the run and strike the ball over the bar at an angle over the shoulder before the cone is reached v) Both players continue running around the cone and join the opposite line vi) The drill continues with the second player on both teams and so on vi) Drills lasts 3-4min</p><p>Pat Culhane (Hurling Development Administrator) & Seán Herbert (Games Development Administrator) 2010 Munster GAA Coaching Conference, Mallow GAA Complex</p>
