This scholarship is intended to help students who have lost a parent to cancer or are battling or survived cancer themselves. Donna Mauk lost her life to cancer in 2008. Although never a student at Illinois State University (ISU), she shared her life with an ISU grad (Steve Mauk, ‘79), and many of Donna’s friends were ISU alumni. Donna was a frequent visitor to the Bloomington/Normal community, and she would be pleased to be able to help ISU students who have had to deal with the loss of a parent due to cancer or have or are battling cancer themselves.</p><p>Donna was a wonderful person who will never be forgotten. Those who knew her will always remember her as a person who always wanted what was best for everyone around her.</p><p>She loved her family and friends more than life itself. It was never about the money nor was it about having nice things; it was about being with each other. She loved to travel, especially with family and friends. Many have traveled with her at some point. It may have been that trip to Cancun, Las Vegas, North Carolina, Gatlinburg, or even just camping in the back yard at her sister’s house. No matter where she was or what she was doing, Donna would always bring a smile to your face. </p><p>The number of scholarships and the award amount will depend on available funding. It is intended that this scholarship will be made available every year. </p><p>Please send your completed application, essay, accompanying documentation (see application for details) and the Release of Information form to the Scholarship Resource Office at Illinois State University and post marked by June 22, 2012. Must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good academic standing at Illinois State University AND 2. Have lost a parent to cancer, is a cancer survivor, or battling cancer themselves (documentation required **) AND 3. Be an incoming freshman with a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale OR 4. Be a current student with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 in coursework at Illinois State or a transfer student with a cumulative transfer GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale AND 5. Submit the required typed one page essay detailing how cancer has affected your life – no more than one page. 6. Have a financial need as determined by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)</p><p>Essay: Please submit a typed essay, one page or less, detailing how cancer has affected your life. **Required documentation : Lost a parent to cancer - please provide a letter (from a non-family member) indicating the circumstances of the parent’s situation and their battle with cancer.
