<p>Name: ______Number: ______Date: ______Video: Walt Disney’s Fantasia (Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky) (about a 20 minute film clip segment) In 1940, Walt Disney created and produced the animated film Fantasia. In the film, Disney unites the talents of well-known composers, conductors, musicians, and his animators. The film has many great acts such as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Night on Bald Mountain. We will focus on an animation built around Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. It will examine the formation of planet Earth, and evolution theory.</p><p>Earth is about 4.8-5.0 billion years old (Our universe is about 13 billion years old). Earth is a planet that revolves about our star the Sun. The Sun gives the energy used by autotrophs (plants, algae, and some bacteria) so they may use it form food during photosynthesis. Our planet went through several stages of development as it condensed from gas and dust due to gravitational attraction. It even experienced a “redo” when a Mar’s sized object smashed into it ejecting material to form the moon. Carefully, watch the film (it is a great film in my opinion), and respond to the requested items.</p><p>1. Original condition of our earth: (hot, cold, volcanic or non-volcanic).</p><p>2. Where did the Earth’s atmosphere (and water) arise?</p><p>3. First organisms seen (single or multicellular)?</p><p>4. Evolution, is the change over time. Biologic evolution, the change in life over time, has been believed by people for a long, long time. They just couldn’t explain how. Then, things changed. Who gave us the term Natural Selection with regards to biologic evolution? What does it mean? Who/what does it favor? B.
