<p> EVALUATION OF SPEECH MECHANISM</p><p>An oral peripheral exam was completed to determine the adequacy of the student’s oral structures and their functions for speech purposes. The lips were normal in appearance, and the student could approximate various labial movements upon request. The teeth were normal in appearance, orally hygiene appeared to be good, and normal occlusion was present. Palatal height and width were normal. Velar movement was uniform and active during phonation of /a/. The tongue presented a normal appearance. The student was able to direct his or her tongue through its full range of movement on command. The tonsils were normal in size. Overall, the oral structures appeared to be adequate in appearance.
