Relationships and Biodiversity Lab# 31

Introduction & Hypothesis: which will be more effective at determining which plant is most closely related (most similar) to Botana curus? Structural evidence or molecular evidence?

Procedures: 1. test 1 description 2. test 2 description 3. test 3 description 4. test 4 description: 5. test 5 description: 6. test 6 description: 7. test 7 description

Results: *Observations: Explain what happened for each of the seven tests…give a brief description for what was observed in each.

*Tables and Charts: Re-create the translation table on page 4, your data table on page 8 and your electrophoresis table on page 9 and insert these into your lab write-up here. (Do not simply cut and paste these charts (do not alter your lab at all). ***Your electronic version of your electrophoresis table can simply have blackened in boxes (not the DNA fragments you cut-up – although these should be on your actual lab).

Conclusion: Minimum 8-10 sentences: 1) Restate your hypothesis and tell whether it was supported or not. 2) Explain how this experiment proved or disproved your hypothesis (USE EVIDENCE FROM RESULTS!). 3) What things could have gone wrong that would effect your results? 4) What’s one thing you could you do differently in this lab? 5) What did you learn from this experiment? 6) What connections can you make to previous units and real world scenarios? 7) What overall theme about structural and molecular evidence did you learn from this lab experiment? Remember to incorporate the analysis questions into your conclusion. DO NOT just rewrite the questions but use them to help shape and explain your conclusion.
