Tazewell High School INSTRUCTIONAL LESSON PLANS

Teacher: J. Scott Yost Subject: Physics Period(s): 4

Dates: 10/24/16 until 10/28/16 Unit: Motion in two dimensions

SOLs (or Competencies) Addressed: PH.4 The student will investigate and understand how applications of physics affect the world. Key concepts include a) examples from the real world; and b) exploration of the roles and contributions of science and technology.

PH.5 The student will investigate and understand the interrelationships among mass, distance, force, and time through mathematical and experimental processes. Key concepts include a) linear motion; b) uniform circular motion; c) projectile motion; d) Newton’s laws of motion; e) gravitation; f) planetary motion; and g) work, power, and energy.

Learning Objectives:

The Student Will…. Add Perpendicular vectors analytically with elements of Geometry and Trigonometry Resolve a vector into it’s perpendicular components. Add vectors at various angles by summing perpendicular components.

Monday

WarmUP – Adding Vectors at Various Angles / Independent Practice – Skills Practice WS / Summary and Review (Q & A)

Tuesday

Unit 4 Mid – Unit Quiz (Vectors)

Wednesday Guided Practice – Notes – Horizontally Launched Projectiles /Summary and Review – Review Problems

Thursday Guided Practice-Notes- Projectiles Launched at an angle/ Independent Practice- from Text / Summary and Review (Q & A)

Friday Independent Practice – Students will be working on the Unit 4 Study Guide, while the teacher assists. Instructional/Assessment Activities:

Bellringers in the form of “WarmUP” Problems of Questions / Guided Practice and Independent Practice from handouts / text.

Summative Assessment

A Mid - Unit Test will be given on Tuesday.

Technology The Smartboard will be used as a primary tool to check for student understanding The TI-84 Graphing Calculators will be used as a tool to assist in calculations. Students MAY use their cellphones to take photos of Homework when necessary. Students MAY use the TI-84 emulator on their cell phones for graphing applications when necessary. Students May Use their Cell-Phones for classwork, if it has a scientific calculator app. (This saves $ for battery replacement and encourages use for homework)

Formative Assessment

Whole Group and Independent Practice in the form of Skill Sheets, Classwork from Text, WarmUPs and Bellringers- Discussions.

Differentiation.

WarmUP (Bellringers) will be used every day to assess individual understanding of previous topics covered. Summative Assessments (Quizzes and Tests) will be used as a primary tool to guide instruction for individual student needs. Remediation will be provided for students who are not ready for the next topic. Students who have mastered content will be provided with extended practice (challenge problems). Time will be allotted each day (other than the day of a quiz or test) for Independent practice to allow for additional support from the teacher to address individual needs. If necessary, assignments will be altered to accommodate for those who may work at a slower pace. Students will be assigned different responsibilities in the lab setting.
