As presented in grades K-8, the basic understandings of number, operation, and quantitative reasoning; patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking; geometry, measurement; and probability and statistics are essential foundations for all work in high school mathematics. Students will continue to build on this foundation as they expand their understanding through other mathematical experiences.</p><p>ALGEBRA 1 C-SCOPE Curriculum: The Study of Functions Exponents and Polynomial Algebraic Expressions and Equations Operations Linear Equations, Inequalities, and Quadratic Functions Application Quadratic Equations and Investigating Linear Functions Applications Linear Functions and Applications Tying It All Together Systems of Linear Equations Cost Comparison Analysis Systems of Linear Equations and Applications Classroom Policies: Students are encouraged to actively participate in class in order to ensure academic success. Students must pay attention, follow classroom rules, and bring all required materials. All students will be taking the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test. In order to receive a diploma, students must pass all STAAR exams required for graduation. Therefore, it is imperative that they take this class seriously! Classroom Rules: 1. Follow directions and school rules at all times. 2. Be seated before the tardy bell rings and ready to work. 3. Bring all required materials to class; such as paper, pencils, notebook, etc. 4. No cursing, bullying, name-calling, putdowns or harassment (no taunting). Keep hands to yourself, as well as any objects. 5. No food, drinks, gum, headgear, or make-up application in the classroom. (Headgear includes no headphones) Consequences: 1. Verbal warning, sign behavior log 2. Warning, last out 3. 1 minutes after class, parent contact, referral to principal Hall Pass Policy: The Hall pass is for restroom emergencies only. As per school policy, students will not be allowed to use the hall pass in the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of the period. Students must ALWAYS sign out on the hall pass putting the date, time and destination. Failure to follow these rules will result in termination of this privilege. Materials Needed: 1. 1 grid notebook 1. 1 package of pencils 2. 1 box of tissue (such as Kleenex) 3. 1box of cap erasers 4. Hand sanitizer Note: Pencils must be sharpened before class and never while the teacher is talking. Absentees: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask for the assignments. You will have the amount of days that you were absent to make up the work. Technology: Students will have access to graphing calculators in this class. Calculators will be assigned based on seating charts. Students from other class periods will use the same calculators; so report any problems to teacher immediately. The student will be held responsible for their assigned calculator! Dress Code Policy will be enforced. (Please see attachment) Cell Phone and Non-Instructional Items Policy: 1. Cell phones and other non-intstructional items (see page 15 of student handbook) should not be used in class. 1st infraction- Item will be returned only to the parent. 2nd infraction and beyond - $15 administrative fee each time will be imposed. Grading Policy: 9 weeks grade will consist of the following: Class work/Homework 30% Quizzes 20% Participation 15% Tests 35% 100% *******There will be a minimum of 3 tests per the 9 weeks grading period******* Retesting Unit Tests: Students shall be allowed to retake a test one time if the following requirements are met: More than 25% of the class failed the test; all students in the class will be given the opportunity to retest one time if this condition is met. If the above does not apply: 1 Retest per 9 weeks is allowed. Student has one week after the graded test has been return to retake it. Term grades are calculated as follows: Quarter 1 Quarter 2 1st 9 weeks 85% 2nd 9 weeks 85% Quarter Exam 15% Quarter Exam 15% Final grade: 1st Quarter 50% 2 nd quarter 50% 100% Tutoring Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:10-5:10 in Room 8-113 Progress Reports: Sept. 14, Oct. 5, Nov. 16, Dec. 14, Feb. 8, March 1, April 19, May 10 Teacher Creed: As your child’s teacher: I will NOT tolerate any student doing anything other than what is in their BEST interest. I will NOT tolerate any student stopping another student from learning for ANY reason. I will NOT tolerate any student stopping me from teaching for ANY reason.
