This Matter Is Being Dealt with by Anne Whitehead

---- Oxfordshire County Council This matter is being dealt with by Anne Whitehead Cricket Road Centre Email: [email protected] Cricket Road OXFORD OX4 3DW

Jim Crook Interim Director for Children, Young People & Families

Telephone: 01865 428041 Fax: 01865 428025

My ref: Your ref: Date:6th November 2009

Dear Headteacher,

Maintaining Healthy School Status

Over the last ten years, the Healthy Schools programme has successfully established itself as the most widely embraced non-statutory government initiative in schools. Evaluation shows that being a Healthy School has an association with better OFSTED results, better Contextual Value Added results and lower absenteeism from both staff and pupils.

From this September, schools who have already achieved Healthy Schools status will need to progress on to the new ‘Enhancement Programme’. This enables them, working closely with key partners to better focus on the priorities that matter most to them, whilst offering targeted support to vulnerable children and young people.

The Healthy Schools team is planning training to be held in January 2010 to support colleagues as they embed the new framework into their school improvement planning cycles.

The Training Events

There will be three training events and schools need to attend ONE of these days:

Date Venue Time Friday Milton Hill House Conference Centre, Milton Hill, 09.30-16.00 8th January 2010 Steventon, Abingdon Oxfordshire, OX13 6AF Tuesday Witney Four Pillars Hotel 09.30-16.00 12th January 2010 Ducklington Lane, Witney Oxfordshire, OX28 4EX Friday Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel 09.30-16.00 15th January 2010 Sandford on Thames Oxford, OX4 4GX Refreshments and Lunch will be provided.

Who Should Attend the Training?

All invited schools need to send a representative. There are large numbers of schools involved and it will not be possible to deliver this training to individual schools.

The changes to the programme mean that there is now much greater emphasis on the use of data to inform priorities leading to school improvement. It is therefore highly recommended that a member of the school leadership team attends this training.

A FREE place will be provided for one senior leader from each school. However, we encourage schools to send a second colleague for which there will be a £50 charge.

Please complete the attached booking form and return it to Julie Scott, Healthy Schools Team Administrator, by no later than Monday 7th December 2009.

Places are limited at each venue and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Places booked on training events and not taken up will be charged for at £50 person.

There is now a full range of Guidance documents that schools can download from the Healthy Schools Website under the Enhancement tab on the homepage, and colleagues are encouraged to access these documents in readiness for the training events at www.healthyschools.gov.uk

We are looking forward to working with schools on this exciting phase of development.

Yours sincerely,

Anne Whitehead Healthy Schools Co-ordinator
