Autodidactics’ Concordia Theatre Constitution

Article I – Autodidactics’ Concordia Theatre – A.C.T.

Article II - Objective 1. A.C.T is a student organisation with the objective of providing an environment for students of all academic disciplines to share in their common passion for theatre, no matter their background in theatre or their major at the university.

2. The Club will follow a two-part schedule throughout the academic year, based in the Fall and Winter semesters respectively. During the Fall semester, we will be hosting non-mandatory acting workshops every week in an attempt to provide our members with a balanced academic and social life, allowing them to choose which workshops they would like to participate in depending on their availabilities. The workshops will be hosted by the Club’s executive officers or outside professionals in the theatre community. The workshops will cover a variety of aspects of the craft of acting, such as stage presence, scene analysis, improvisation, etc. The workshops will be hosted Wednesdays from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., in the Henry F. Hall building 7th floor Large Lounge, unless decided upon otherwise by the Club executives.

3. During the Winter semester and beginning partly in the Fall, we will begin production of the Club’s main event, our End of Year Production. It is a theatre production, written, directed and acted by club members. The Club will host school-wide auditions for student writers in the Fall semester (between Midterms and Finals) and once chosen, they will begin work on the play during the Winter Break. Once the Winter semester begins, the Club will host school-wide auditions for student actors. Once cast, those actors and Club executives will begin weekly rehearsals, starting mid-January/beginning- February, every Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., until the last day of classes. During and after exams, rehearsals will be two to three times a week, depending on the production schedule provided to its members by Club executives, until the week of the show. The show will be performed at the Mainline Theatre (3997 Boulevard Saint-Laurent). The event is open to the Montreal public, and as such all proceeds from the show will benefit the Theresa Foundation, a Montreal-based NGO which raises funds for grandmothers and orphans in over 20 villages in Malawi. We do not pay any of the actors, stage managers, acting stage managers, director, acting coaches, set designers or choreographers involved in the production of our play, so this is entirely volunteer work.

4.
