She moved to Philadelphia at age 13 to pursue a life of music. At age 17, she entered The Curtis Institute of Music, where she received her B.M. At Curtis, she studied with Orlando Cole, Lynn Harrell and Peter Wiley. Victoria has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Ocean City Pops, Pottstown Symphony, DePaul Chamber Orchestra and SMU Conservatory Orchestra. She has also performed extensively as a chamber musician and orchestral member in cities across America, Puerto Rico, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, South Korea, and Switzerland. In her spare time, Victoria gardens, collects rocks and invents recipes in her kitchen.</p><p>Irene Guerriero, violin Irene Guerriero has a Bachelor of Music from SUNY Fredonia during which time she studied violin at the Conservatory of Music in Vienna, Austria, a Masters of Music in violin from Westchester University and additional post graduate education at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Mrs. Guerriero has taught Strings and Orchestra grades 3-12 at Archbishop Prendergast High School, the Norristown Area School District and the Boyertown Area School District. Most recently she taught Strings, Orchestra, Music Theory, American Musical Theater and the History of Rock and Roll at the Colonial Area School District in Plymouth Meeting. She has been professionally active as President of the Pennsylvania/Delaware String Teachers Association (PADESTA), Chairperson of the Educational Advisory Council of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chairperson of the Curriculum Committee of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and Co-founder of the Montgomery County Senior High Honors Orchestra. Mrs. Guerriero has performed with the Pottstown Symphony, Reading Pops Orchestra, and the Coventry Consort String Quartet. She currently freelances in the Philadelphia area.</p><p>Cassia Harvey, cello Cassia Harvey is a cellist, cello teacher, and writer of cello technique. She began her cello studies at the age of eight with Lillian Kauffman and continued her studies with Deborah Reeder and Jeffrey Solow. A soloist with the Kennett Symphony and the Warminster Symphony and first-place winner of the PADESTA, the Concerto Soloists, and Cafferata- Jackson Competitions, Cassia’s performances have been broadcast on Philadelphia’s Channel 57 and New York Public Television. Recent performances include concerts at Swarthmore College, the Reading Public Museum, the Ethical Society of Philadelphia, An Die Musik Live, and the German Society of Philadelphia, as well as lecture recitals at Columbia University and Barnard College. Cassia has performed with her sister, Myanna, as part of the Harvey String Duo since 1994. She has been performing with the Philmore Ensemble since 2011 and as a member of the Musicalia Ensemble since 2015. Her recording, The Russian Cello: Rare Treasures from Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union, with pianist Tim Ribchester, will be released in spring 2016. Cassia Harvey has been teaching cello for over twenty years. Her students have been accepted into Philadelphia Sinfonia, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and Pennsylvania’s District, Regional, and All-State Orchestras, MENC All-Eastern Orchestra, and the MENC All-National Orchestra. They have been accepted into the Advanced Study Ensemble Program at Settlement Music School, the Masterworks Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and Tanglewood Music Festival. Cassia’s students have won first prizes in the Korean- American Competition, the Lansdowne Symphony Competition, and in both the junior and senior divisions of the Tri- County Competition. They have soloed with the Bux-Mont Chamber Orchestra, the Warminster Symphony, and the Landsdowne Symphony. Her students have been accepted into schools as music performance majors including Esther Boyer College of Music, Indiana University School of Music, and the Juilliard School.</p><p>Joseph Kauffman, violin Joseph Kauffman was born in Oakland, California in 1986, and began studying the violin when he was five. He studied with Yayoi Numazawa of the Philadelphia Orchestra. During the summers, Joseph participated in international music festivals such as Interlochen, Luzerne, Music in the Mountains, Kinhaven, and Recontres Musicales International des Graves where he worked with many of the worlds finest musicians and teachers. Joseph graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2008 with a BM in Violin Performance, and was honored to receive the Creative Achievement Award given out to one exceptional student. He studied there with James Lyon and Max Zorin on a music scholarship, and was awarded Jury Recognition in his first year. Joseph was a winner of the Beene, Kroulik, and Brewster competitions in Pennsylvania, and in 2008, received first prize in the PSU Philharmonic Concerto Competition where he performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto. He returns to Penn State every summer for the Penn’s Woods Music Festival under the direction of Maestro Gerardo Edelstein. Joseph founded “Valens” Piano Quartet which earned 2nd Place in the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. Kauffman was accepted into the class of Professor Eduard Schmieder in 2008 where he began his studies in the master’s degree program at Temple University. Kauffman has served as concertmaster for many of the Temple Orchestra concerts. Over the summer Kauffman performed Mozart Concerto #3 with the Wayne Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, performed in LA with ipalpiti soloists international, Taught chamber music at The Music in the Mountains Festival, and his trio premiered a new work for violin, piano, and horn.</p><p>Prometheus Chamber Orchestra Founded in 2013, Prometheus Chamber Orchestra is a self-conducted and self-managed orchestra in residence at the historic Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia. Comprised of 18 musicians, Prometheus seeks to use the self- conducted orchestra to change the way audiences experience orchestra concerts, the relationship of the orchestra to the community, and the way musicians perceive concert programming and artistic responsibility.</p><p>Jeffrey Solow, cello Cellist Jeffrey Solow’s impassioned and compelling playing has enthralled audiences throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia as a recitalist, soloist, chamber musician and teacher. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he studied with the distinguished cellist Gabor Rejto and earned a degree in Philosophy magna cum laude from UCLA while studying with and then assisting the legendary Gregor Piatigorsky. Mr. Solow’s repertoire encompasses performances of more than 40 solo works with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic (also at the Hollywood Bowl), Japan Philharmonic, Prime Symphony (Korea), VNOB (Hanoi), Seattle Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the American Symphony (with whom he also recorded) and he has been guest artist at many national and international chamber music festivals. He has recorded on the Columbia, New World, ABC, Centaur, Delos, Kleos, Laurel, Everest, and Telefunken labels and received two Grammy Award nominations. In addition to performing, Mr. Solow’s editions are published by Breitkopf, IMC, Peters, Latham, Ovation, and Henle Urtext and his articles and reviews can be found in The Strad, Strings, and American String Teacher magazines. He is editor of the Newsletter of the Violoncello Society, Inc. of NY, the nation’s second oldest cello society, and serves as VCS president. Recognized as an authority on healthy and efficient cello playing, Jeffrey Solow is professor of cello at Temple University in Philadelphia. He is past president of the American String Teachers Association, chair of ASTA’s National Solo Competition, and has served on their Executive Board.</p><p>Timothy Watts, Luthier Timothy Watts is a luthier (maker and restorer of stringed instruments) who trained in Philadelphia, Pa with Michael Purcell, formerly of the William Moennig shop. Mr. Watts worked at Purcell Strings for a number of years before opening his own shop, Watts Stringed Instruments, in Berwyn, Pa. Mr. Watts specializes in the restoration and sale of fine violins, violas and cellos.</p><p>CMS Faculty:</p><p>Cynthia Campetti, violin Ms. Campetti is a former member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia Opera Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet Company and the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music with a degree in violin performance, Ms. Campetti studied with world-renowned teachers, Ivan Galamian and Jascha Brodsky. For the past 35 years, Ms. Campetti has committed her time to teaching private students in the Philadelphia region. Ms. Campetti is on staff at Eastern University, Darlington Fine Arts Center and Community Music School. Cindy is a Master Level Faculty member at CMS.</p><p>Eric Coyne, cello Eric has been an active teacher, performer, and chamber musician in the Philadelphia region since 2001. In addition to his work at Community Music School since 2002, he has been a faculty member of the Westminster Choir College Conservatory, the Nelly Berman School of Music, and The Music School of Delaware. He currently teaches music theory and chamber music at The Music School of Delaware, and has been a Master Faculty member of the Community School since 2009. From 2002-2005, he was ‘cellist of CMS’s ensemble-in-residence, the Mühlenberg Piano Quartet, and is currently ‘cellist of the Illustra Trio. Other performing commitments include Symphony in C, Classical Revolution Philadelphia, and the Murmuration Improvisation Ensemble. He holds a B.M. in Cello Performance from the University of Iowa, and an M.M. and Performance-Pedagogy Professional Certificate from Temple University. Eric is also a certified Suzuki instructor. Eric is a Master Level Faculty member at CMS.</p><p>Raymond Mallari, violin & viola Raymond Mallari graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Viola Performance. He continued his graduate studies at West Chester University in both violin and viola emphasizing pedagogy. His orchestral participation includes Temple University Symphony Orchestra, West Chester Symphony Orchestra, Lower Merion Symphony, Pottstown Symphony Orchestra, ChescoPOPS, and Philadelphia National Symphony. Internationally, he had the pleasure of touring China with the Philadelphia National Symphony 2011—2012. He participated in the 2013 ChamberArt Madrid Music Festival as principal violist, earning a certificate diploma of chamber music. His chamber music activities includes numerous String Trios, String Quartets, Guitar Quintet, and Piano Quintets. He was a participant in the MTNA Young Artist and Chamber Music Competition placing Alternate in the 2009 Chamber Division, an Honorable Mention in the Young Artist 2008 Division, and a National Finalist in the 2009 Young Artist Division. Mr. Mallari teaches violin and viola beginners to advancing levels and is Suzuki certified. In addition to working at CMS, Mr. Mallari is also a faculty member at Immaculata University and has a home studio in West Chester, PA. 2016 CMS STRING FEST Registration Form The Festival Fee is $30 and includes one ticket to the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra Concert at 7:30pm. Deadline for Registration is March 20th, 2016. There will be a $10 late registration fee for applicants after March 15th, 2016. There will be no refunds given for Festival or Registration Fees paid. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch. Photos or Video taken during the festival may be used on the CMS website and social media pages.
