Springfield- (continued) David Hall reported that funding for a classroom at Station #6 (Battlefield Rd) has been arranged. He also reported that recruit testing is underway for their vacant positions. He stated over 550 applicants responded to the announcement. Written exams had been conducted and he is expecting to test approximately 60 in the physical exam. Hall also said there have been some concerns regarding code violations at the Springfield Empire Fairgrounds. Recently a demolition derby was held indoors without sprinklers, without ventilation and in violation of charter rules. He said any fire service related event in Springfield has to involve the Springfield Fire Department (as written in Charter). Doing this prevents code violations like the ones noted during the derby. Another fire department apparently was providing protection at the time. Hall also stated there are several training opportunities coming up in Springfield. Driver/Operator, Intro to Tech, Fire Officer 1 and Instructor 1 are expected soon. Jon Trent further stated that several of these classes are sponsored by the Greene County Fire Training Association.
