Initial Review: April 18, 2008</p><p>The mission of the Connecticut Department of Correction is to protect the public, protect staff, and provide safe, secure, and humane supervision of offenders with opportunities that support successful community reintegration. Correction officer trainees complete a 10-week program of classroom and on- site education and experience to prepare them for service in Connecticut correctional facilities. The Connecticut Department of Correction requested that a review of their Pre-Service Training courses be conducted to allow correction officers to receive college credit for their training. Basic) Topics include ethics and conduct, the prison environment, inmate supervision, legal issues and inmates' rights, behavior management, contraband control, and security procedures.</p><p>Special Populations and Emergency Response (3 cr. Basic) Treatment of special populations including inmates with AIDS/HIV and other infectious diseases; female; mentally ill; and security risk inmates.
