SCIENCE-9

ESSENTIAL UNIT 4 (E04)

(Light-Physical Science) (June 2011)

Unit Statement: This unit will explore where sources of light, how light travels from one place to another, and how light enables us to see objects.

Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)

1. The Student Will define and apply Key Terms and Concepts.

2. TSW use the scientific process to conduct investigations, record observations, and draw conclusions.

3. TSW explore how light beams travel.

4. TSW establish that light can bounce or be reflected.

5. TSW explain what happens to light as it shines on three types of materials: transparent, translucent and opaque.

6. TSW discover that light is all around us and if an object is visible, there is light.

7. TSW explore and discuss current events in science.

Key Terms and Concepts: transparent reflected translucent light beam opaque bounce

1 QSI SCIENCE-9 E04 Copyright © 1988-2011 Suggested Materials: ScienceCompanion Module: “Light”

Technology Resources: Destiny Quest and Web Path Express (accessible via school’s library web page) www.ScienceCompanion.com http://www.sciencenetlinks.com/lessons.php?DocID=285 http://science.nsta.org/enewsletter/sc0610

Suggested Assessment Tools and Strategies: Provided Rubric Teacher Generated Rubric

RUBRIC FOUND ON FOLLOWING PAGE……………………..

2 SCIENCE-9

ESSENTIAL UNIT 4 (E04)

(Light) Evaluation Rubric Name ______Date ______

To earn an A for the unit, the student will have all of the B’s marked as well ‘A’ as two or more A’s.
