<p> BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SPECIAL TELECONFERENCE MEETING President’s Conference Room, 2503 Berndt Hall Fort Lewis College September 1, 2016 </p><p>Vol. 16-118</p><p>Trustees Participating via Teleconference: Alan Hill, Ernest House, Nora Jacquez, Tom Schilling, Steve Short, John Wells Trustees Absent: Karen Wilde </p><p>Staff Present: Dene Thomas, President; Steve Schwartz, Vice President for Finance & Administration; Mark Jastorff, Vice President for Institutional Advancement; Peggy Sharp, Deputy Secretary; and Mike Larson, Audio Consultant Staff Participating via Teleconference: Barbara Morris, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Lauren Becker, Legal Counsel </p><p>Guests Present: Maureen Brandon, Dean, School of Arts & Sciences; David Blake, Faculty Senate President; Jeb Davis, Athletic Training Faculty member; Melissa Knight-Maloney, Exercise Science Faculty</p><p>Steve Short, Vice Chair, convened the special teleconference Board meeting at 2:35 p.m. and asked Provost Morris to provide some background of the events leading to the request for formal Board approval of the discontinuance of the Athletic Training Program. In doing so, she called on Maureen Brandon and Jeb Davis to provide additional details.</p><p>Mr. Davis summarized the circumstances that originally resulted in the decision to suspend the program by the end of the 2017-2018 academic year. However, the accrediting body for the program, Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), found that the College was not meeting one of the standards required and gave the College thirty days to submit a voluntary withdrawal in order to protect the students and allow them to graduate from an accredited program. </p><p>Provost Morris reported that this recommendation for discontinuance has been vetted through the required process. Dr. Blake stated the Faculty Senate approved the discontinuance earlier today with no discussion. </p><p>Trustee Hill moved that the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College approve discontinuance of the following degree program: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Athletic Training. Trustee Schilling seconded the motion. Following a roll vote, the motion passed unanimously.</p><p>Trustee Jacquez moved for adjournment, with a second by Trustee House.</p><p>Meeting adjourned at 2:48 p.m. </p>
