Clip art is available from a variety of sources including the Microsoft Media Gallery that is built into Microsoft Office. The Media Gallery enables you to select clip art in two different ways, by searching through a predefined collection such as “transportation” or by searching on a key word such as “automobile”. The Media Gallery also lets you specify the type of object you want – clip art, photographs, movies, or sounds. Once the object has been inserted into a document, it can be moved and sized using various options in the Format Picture command. You can wrap text around a picture, place a border around the picture, or even crop (cut out part of) the picture if necessary. In addition to clip art, you can use WordArt to create artistic effects to enhance any document. WordArt enables you to create special effects with text. It lets you rotate and/or flip text, display it vertically on the page, shade it, slant it, arch it, or even print it upside down. Best of all, WordArt is intuitive and easy to use. In essence, you enter text into a dialog box, and then you choose a shape for the text from a dialog box. You can create special effects by choosing one of several different shadows. You can vary the image even further by using any TrueType font on your system. It's fun, it's easy, and you can create some truly dynamite documents. The Insert Symbol command enables you to insert special symbols into a document to give it a professional look. You can, for example, use ™ rather than TM, © rather than (C), or ½ and ¼ rather than 1/2 and 1/4. It also enables you to insert accented characters as appropriate in English as in the word résumé, or in a foreign language to create properly accented words and phrases; for example, ¿Cómo está usted? You can insert clip art and/or WordArt into other Office documents such as PowerPoint presentations or Excel worksheets using the same commands that you will learn in this chapter. Indeed, that is one of the benefits of the Office suite because the same commands are executed from the same menus as you go from one application to another. In addition, every application in the Office suite contains a Standard toolbar and a Formatting toolbar.

This document was created using Microsoft Windows 2000
