Books on tape/CD, books read on the computer, etc. are some other examples of where students can hear a model of good reading fluency.  Echo Reading: An adult or fluent reader reads a phrase or sentence using proper phrasing and expression in the text. The student repeats the same passage mimicking the fluent reader. This pattern continues until the passage is read entirely.  Partner Reading: The student reads simultaneously with an adult or fluent reader. Side by side; Shoulder to shoulder, Reading WITH a partner.  Choral Reading: Student and the adult or fluent reader read the same selection (passage/story) aloud together at a moderate rate.  Repeated Reading: Student rereads text that is at their level to improve accuracy, phrasing, etc.  Cloze Passages: The adult or fluent reader orally reads the selection (passage or story) to the student at a moderate rate. The adult or fluent reader pauses and “intentionally deletes” meaningful words for the student to fill in. The student should follow along with their finger “touching” the words as they are read to them.  Phonemic Awareness: A general understanding of the sound structure of words, including rhymes, syllables and phonemes.  Phonics Instruction: The understanding that there is a predictable relationship between phonemes (sounds of letters) and graphemes (letters and spellings that represent those sounds). High Frequency Words: The words most commonly found in text that students should be able to recognize and read immediately without sounding out each time</p>
