This local tsunami hit 3 countries (Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga) all within 10-20 minutes of the earthquake. Luckily, only a very small number of lives were lost due to tsunami awareness and outreach done over the prior months and years. This was especially true in American Samoa and Samoa. </p><p>The briefing will share lessons learned and observations of the factors impacting human and community resiliency in American Samoa. The lessons learned will focus on community preparedness including the development of a robust Emergency Alert System and exercised evacuation and response plans. Observations on the factors impacting human and community resiliency in American Samoa including public education lessons applicable to NTHMP states, territories, and commonwealths will be shared.
