<p> On joint motion of all Councilmembers present it was moved, that the reading of the minutes of the Jefferson Parish Council Meeting of Wednesday, February 15, 2012 be dispensed with and said minutes be approved and adopted as recorded in the Official Journal of the Parish of Jefferson and the Official Minute Book of the Jefferson Parish Council with notations of corrections of publication as follows:</p><p>APPROVAL OF MINUTES JEFFERSON PARISH COUNCIL MEETING WEDNESDAY, February 15, 2012</p><p>Published In: THE CITY BUSINESS, March 16, 2012</p><p>In the February 24, 2012 edition the following resolutions were omitted:</p><p>On motion of Ms. Lee-Sheng, seconded by Mr. Lagasse, the following resolution was offered: RESOLUTION NO. 118363 A resolution reappointing Ms. Virginia “Ginger” Crawford to the Jefferson Parish Lafreniere Park Advisory Board, representing Council District 5. (District 5) BE IT RESOLVED by the Jefferson Parish Council of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, acting as governing authority of said Parish: SECTION 1. That Ms. Virginia “Ginger” Crawford is hereby reappointed to the Jefferson Parish Lafreniere Park Advisory Board, representing Council District 5. SECTION 2. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Virginia Crawford, 4109 North Turnbull Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70002. The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows: YEAS: 7 NAYS: None ABSENT: None The resolution was declared to be adopted on this the 15th day of February, 2012.</p><p>On motion of Mr. Johnston, seconded by Mr. Lagasse, the following resolution was offered: RESOLUTION NO. 118365 A resolution expressing the Parish of Jefferson’s opposition to the proposed closing of the Bridge City Post Office located at 1507 Bridge City Avenue, Bridge City, Louisiana 70094 and urges the United States Postal Service (USPS) to keep its present level of services for the residents and businesses of this area of Jefferson Parish.</p><p>WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has publicly announced an effort to eliminate various post office facilities throughout the United States in order to reduce their financial deficit in operations, and</p><p>WHEREAS, the Bridge City Post Office located at 1507 Bridge City Avenue, Bridge City, Louisiana, 70094 is a facility that the USPS is considering closing as part of this cost reduction program according to certain criteria that the USPS has established, and</p><p>WHEREAS, the USPS is calling for a public input into the decision of whether to close this facility or allow it to continue servicing our community, and </p><p>WHEREAS, the communities of Bridge City, Waggaman, Avondale, Nine Mile Point and parts of Westwego are serviced by this Post Office , and</p><p>WHEREAS, Completion of the Huey P. Long Bridge improvements are expected to facilitate commercial and residential growth of the area serviced by this Post Office and the availability of a Post Office is critical to commercial growth, and </p><p>WHEREAS, the proposed closing of the Bridge City Post Office would require residents and businesses in this area to utilize the next closest Post Office over 5 miles away in a heavily congested traffic area and at a facility with minimal available parking. </p><p>NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Jefferson Parish Council of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, acting as governing authority of said Parish:</p><p>SECTION 1. That the Parish of Jefferson is hereby stating its opposition to the proposed closing of the Bridge City Post Office located at 1507 Bridge City Avenue, Bridge City Louisiana, 70094 and urges the United States Postal Service (USPS) to keep its present level of services for the residents, businesses and future development of this area.</p><p>SECTION 2. That a copy of this Resolution is to be forwarded to Mr. Alfred Christophe III, United States Postal Service, 701 Loyola Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70113.</p><p>The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows: </p><p>YEAS: 7 NAYS: None ABSENT: None</p><p>The resolution was declared to be adopted on this the 15th day of February, 2012.</p><p>On motion of Mr. Lagasse, seconded by Mr. Spears, the following resolution was offered. RESOLUTION NO. 118476 A resolution authorizing the Council to go into executive session to discuss legal matters concerning the lawsuit entitled “Waste Management of Louisiana, L.L.C. vs. Consolidated Garbage District No. 1, et al, 24th JDC, No. 711- 346, Div. “N”, and to provide for related matters. (Parishwide) WHEREAS, the potential liability of the Parish requires that the Council go into executive session to discuss legal strategy in these matters: NOW, THEREFORE, the Jefferson Parish Council, acting as the governing authority of the Parish of Jefferson, Louisiana, hereby resolves: SECTION 1. That the Council be and is hereby authorized to go into executive session to discuss legal matters concerning the lawsuit entitled “Waste Management of Louisiana, L.L.C. vs. Consolidated Garbage District No. 1, et al, 24th JDC, No. 711-346, Div. “N”. The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows: YEAS: 6 NAYS: None ABSENT: (1) Roberts The resolution was declared to be adopted on this the 15th day of February, 2012. YEAS: NAYS: ABSENT: This motion was declared to be adopted on this the 7th day of March, 2012.</p>
