A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Loving Memory and Honor of James Preston Melton, Jr

SESS. 06 RS BR 2551</p><p>A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of James Preston Melton, Jr. WHEREAS, James Melton, a native of Barbourville, was the son of the late James Preston Melton, Sr. and Malinda Green Melton, and departed this life on February 27, 2006, at the age of 80 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Melton, who received degrees from Union College and Eastern Kentucky University, and also completed studies at the University of Kentucky and Harvard University, served his country during World War II, earning two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, and the Victory Medal. He was a retired educator, having taught in North Carolina and Kentucky, and had also worked as a public school finance officer throughout the South. In 1977, Mr. Melton became Executive Director of the State School Board Association, and served in that capacity until his retirement; and WHEREAS, James Melton was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lisabeth Suzanne Melton; a son, David Stephen Melton; a sister, Betty Jo Coldiron; and a great-granddaughter, Alaina Ann Hamilton. He is survived by his loving wife, Eldred W. Melton; a son, James Preston Melton, III of Frankfort; a daughter, Sarah Ann Hamilton of Mason, Ohio; one brother, Robert T. Melton of Lexington; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, the passing of James P. Melton, Jr. marks the culmination of decades of service to his country, devotion to his family, and a life well-lived; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate expresses its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James Preston Melton, Jr., and extends its heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. Section 2.
