<p>Our Workshop’s Essential Questions: 1) How can I better promote two specific 21st Century Competencies (Knowledge Construction & Use of Technology for Learning) in my GATE classroom or when working with GATE students? 2) How can using Google Slides with Screencast-O-Matic increase the student-centeredness of our GATE curriculum? How can these programs improve our Project-Based Learning philosophy? 3) What tools for self-regulation would need to be developed to ensure quality student output?</p><p>Set your timer. You only have 35 minutes to complete this challenge. Center #4: Video Killed the Traditional Quiz Your video’s topic: applying math to your actual lives</p><p>1. Quickly read the first half of “Math Curse.” You can read the rest after lunch if you really want to know how it ends!</p><p>2. Work with a partner to create a Math Curse-inspired multiple choice quiz question about something that happens to nice people on Saturdays. Your quiz question should have four multiple choice options as potential answers: a, b, c, and d. </p><p>3. Using animation features, create a Google Slideshow that does the following in this order:</p><p> a. Introduce problem</p><p> b. Introduce answer option a</p><p> c. Introduce answer option b</p><p> d. Introduce answer option c</p><p> e. Introduce answer option d</p><p> f. Jeopardy theme music (or something to pass the time)</p><p> g. Revelation of the correct answer with an explanation of the answer.</p><p>4. Practice 3a - 3g several times before actually recording the presentation</p><p>5. Record using Screencast-O-Matic while you go through your Google slide animations. It’s okay to mess up and have to start over, but your third try will have to be your “final take.”</p><p>Bonus Challenges (if you have the time or a gifted and talented inclination)…</p><p> Make an introductory slide that explains what a “Math Curse” is. Use animation to make numbers or math symbols float across the screen while you are explaining the concept.</p><p> Create a box in Google Slides in the bottom right-hand corner, color it in brightly, then make certain it’s perfectly sized to not only hold the webcam video but also surround your image with a lovely, bright color.
