<p> PRESENTER: KATHY SHRESTHA LINCOLN SCHOOL KATHMANDU, NEPAL</p><p>WORKSHOP TITLE: “RUNNING EIGHT NOTES, WALKING QUARTER NOTES, JUMPING HALF NOTES AND ONE BIG WHOLE NOTE”</p><p> [email protected]</p><p>I will include handouts in my presentation and a gift from Nepal in my presentation</p><p>“Running eights notes, Walking quarter notes, Jumping half notes, And one big whole note.”</p><p>This movement workshop will provide another way for children to experience and then internalize the meaning of eight, quarter, half and whole notes when learning musical theory. Movement comes first, instruments next, songs follow and THEN notation on a musical staff. Please be ready to move. </p><p>Introduction: Kathy Shrestha, teaching at Lincoln School in Kathmandu, Nepal for 33 years. Teaching Experience: physical education using the movement education philosophy, classroom Grade 4 teacher, then physical education along with music for elementary grades.</p><p>Assume the kids know the rules on movement and have experienced Laban’s Elements of Movement (space, time and force)</p><p>A typical class:</p><p>Movement section: A. Students moving through space using a cowbell to set the rhythm. Include running, walking, jumping and making shapes. Also use skipping, galloping and sliding as a change of pace. Review rules and incorporate Show and Try and then partner work Instrument section: A. Students are given rhythm sticks, they find different ways of using their sticks and then focus in on the running beat, the walking beat, the jumping beat and the shape beat. They create a pattern of beats. B. Students then play the rhythm sticks as they move through space, they then create a pattern of beats.</p><p>Singing section: A. a well known song or songs that feature the different notes</p><p>Notation section: A. what would a running note look like on a musical staff, walking note, jumping note, shape note?
