Energy Slogans

<p> Energy slogans </p><p>Outcome: Students develop slogans to promote the idea that non-renewable energy needs to be conserved. </p><p>CSF links ENGLISH Level 3: Writing. Texts. Write texts that convey intended ideas and information, using a small range of text types. ENWR0301 ENGLISH Level 4: Speaking and listening. Texts. Listen to and produce a range of spoken texts that deal with some unfamiliar ideas and information. ENSL0401 Writing. Texts. Use a range of text types to write about some unfamiliar ideas and information, providing supporting detail. ENWR0401 THE ARTS Level 3: Visual arts. Arts practice – ideas, skills, techniques and processes. Make and present visual arts works, using a range of visual arts elements, skills, techniques and processes. ARVA0301 THE ARTS Level 4: Art. Arts practice – ideas, skills, techniques and processes. Demonstrate the ability to experiment with ideas in making and presenting art works. ARAR0401 Drama. Media. Arts practice – ideas, skills, techniques and processes. Demonstrate skill in manipulating media elements. ARME0402 </p><p>Materials Examples of different posters/stickers to demonstrate different slogans. Cardboard. Pens, pencils, textas, etc. to decorate posters with list of energy saving ideas. </p><p>Activity ideas Students develop energy saving slogans. Discuss different ways of informing people how to save energy e.g. posters, bumper stickers, TV ads, newspaper/magazine ads. Show students different examples of posters etc. that demonstrate the use of different slogans. Talk to students about slogans that would encourage people to save energy, for example: “Be Energy Wise”; “Don't Waste My Energy'”; “You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone. Save Energy”. Talk to students about features of a good poster, e.g. colours, lettering. Explain that the best approach to catching people's attention is to use an illustration with a short message of less than 15 words. Students can work individually, in pairs or in groups to design and make a poster. If students are stuck for ideas, a list of ideas for conserving energy is provided (see over). When students have finished designing and making their poster, they can present them to the rest of the class and explain their choice of slogan/pictures and how the actions they suggest will help save energy. Posters can then be displayed around the school. </p><p>Extension Display the posters in the school corridors or at venues such as a local shopping centre. </p><p>Evaluation How appropriate is the slogan? Does it convey an appropriate an energy saving message? How well is the slogan communicated? How well do they design and make the media element? How well do they design and make the visual art? How well do students explain their choice of slogan/pictures and how the actions they suggest will help save energy? 49 PRIMARY TEACHERS GUIDE CSF Levels 3 & 4 Here’s some slogans that the students could use on their posters.
