<p> Hicks, 1</p><p>In-Text Citations Helpful Hints:</p><p> Every time you use information that is not yours (a signal phrase), you MUST cite it!!!</p><p> Citations are always between the ending punctuation and the last thing in the sentence</p><p> o Example: Companies can monitor employees’ every keystroke without legal penalty, but they may have to combat low morale as a result (Lane 129).</p><p> Every time you use a new source in a paragraph, you should use a citation.</p><p> If you use only one source for an entire paragraph, the only time you will make a citation is in the second to last sentence of the paragraph.</p><p> There are different ways to use information from another source:</p><p> o Quotation- Kizza and Ssanyu note that “employee monitoring is a dependable, capable, and very affordable process of electronically or otherwise recording all employee activities at work” and elsewhere (2).</p><p>. The quotation will be in quote</p><p> o Paraphrasing- As a 2005 study by Salary.com and America Online indicates, the Internet ranked as the top choice among employees for ways of wasting time on the job; it beat talking with co-workers—the second most popular method—by a margin of nearly two to one (Frauenheim).</p><p>. A paraphrase is putting the original source’s information into your own words.</p><p> You must have BOTH the in-text citations AND the works cited page. Not having one or the other is PLAGIARISM.</p><p>MLA Formatting:</p><p>. Make sure you use the correct heading, title and page number</p><p> o The page number is your last name with the page number. </p><p> o Page number instructions:</p><p>. Double click at the top of the page or go to the ‘Insert’ tab and click on ‘Page Number’ to access the header Hicks, 2</p><p>. Click on the tab ‘Page Number’ , then click on ‘Top of Page’, then click on ‘Plain Number 3’</p><p>.</p><p>. Finally, type in your last name, comma, then space</p><p>.</p><p>. Finally double click on the rest of the page to exit the Header function Hicks, 3</p>
