<p>Name of producing station: CJRU </p><p>Name of producer: Vjosa Isai</p><p>Short bio of producer (1 paragraph, 250 max words):</p><p>Vjosa is in her fourth year of study at Ryerson University’s School of Journalism in Toronto, Ontario. She is a student reporter at the Toronto Star, and former news intern at the National Post. In the past, she has covered stories about Canadian healthcare, aboriginal rights, and the fate of symphony orchestras. When she’s not doing journalism, Vjosa likes to teach kids French and play the piano.</p><p>1-2 Sentence description of the show: From Little Italy to Koreatown, Toronto has a number of cultural districts and experiences on its streets; but will there ever be a future for a French quarter? CJRU The Scope at Ryerson finds out, and explores the lack of French language bookstores in the city. </p><p>Longer description of show/content (500 word max, to go on website -please provide shortened detail on each information update or audio capsule):</p><p>Torontonians can enjoy a range of cultural experiences from countries all over the world without leaving the comfort of their city. But where in the city can the Francophone population call home? The question of creating a French quarter has been tossed around for over a decade by members of the Francophone community, and we found the answer is not so simple. Another puzzle for Francophones in Toronto in search of a French-langauge books is simply where to find them, as Toronto’s last French bookstore, Librarie Champlain, closed its doors back in 2009. It was one of only eight in Ontario. Just a few months ago in November 2015, Toronto welcomed a new bookstore. Is it here to stay? It may be too soon to say, but our guests offered some insight on the literary and cultural Francophone scene in Toronto.
