From: South Kent Sportsman’s Club P,O, Box 206 2536 140th Avenue Dorr, MI 49323-0206 616-681-2495 www.sksc.org [email protected]

October 2011

Subject: Monitoring of Law Enforcement use of SKSC ranges

As a community service, South Kent Sportsman’s Club still vigorously supports our area Conservation and Law Enforcement officers, and their on-going needs for training as well as maintaining their firearms skills.

SKSC is a member-owned and member-operated organization; therefore every member is a fractional owner of the club. Based on recent events, our members as well as our local neighbors have voiced a desire for SKSC to continue in its efforts to decrease our operating risks by increasing our due-diligence on all of our ranges wherever practical by:

1. Documenting and/or physically reviewing shooting stages and target placement during all events such as USPSA, IDPA, Law Enforcement training activities, etc.

2. Monitoring the effectiveness of Range Safety Officers while operating on our ranges

We do not expect that the additional monitoring will have any significant impact on the organized activities at our club, nor is it our intent to discourage or limit these activities. The amount of monitoring required will be based on the results that we find in our random audits. The SKSC Board of Directors simply needs to remain in a favorable position to answer some of the tough questions in the event that something unfortunate should happen at our club.

It is very important that our area Law Enforcement agencies utilize the on-line SKSC Calendar to log when they will be utilizing our ranges and/or club-house so that our members as well as the SKSC Board of Directors know who is utilizing what ranges as well as when they will be in use. Just to be clear, we will also be monitoring the effective use of our on-line SKSC Calendar for all events conducted at SKSC, and your participation is critical in the scheduling of our ranges. . It is equally important that all club safety rules be followed at all times.

Again, it is not the intent of the SKSC Board of Directors to appear as “Big Brother” at any of our firearms events, and the degree of future monitoring will be based on the data we collect over time.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter, as well as your continued safe use of our facilities.

Stay safe out there!

- SKSC Board of Directors
