The Society is also a company limited by guarantee. Today, it is one of the largest County historical and archaeological organisations in the UK with over 100 staff, over 2,000 members and many volunteers and helpers. It opens 6 historic properties and museums to the public properties, runs a very wide-ranging educational service, has a national respected publishing tradition and supports a very diverse range of walks, talks conferences and related activities. The Society also encompasses a commercial trading arm whose activities include retail activities, weddings and functions. The Society is overseen by a board of trustees. The staff of the Society are led by a Chief Executive and the senior management team. </p><p>About the role </p><p>The role of Personnel Officer is a key one in the organisation. The Personnel Officer is part of the central team located in Bull House, Lewes. The role requires, excellent inter- personnel skills allied to a understanding of contemporary HR issues. The postholder will oversee the day to day running of the personnel functions of the Society; they will also advise the senior management team and trustees of new strategies and approaches to ensure that the Society meets its legal and professional requirements. It is envisaged that for the first period the post will be on a full time basis. This will allow the postholder to visit all of our sites and to get to know our staff and properties. In this initial period the postholder will review all of the Society’s existing personnel systems and will then oversee the development of a range of new procedures and supporting documents. The post is key to the ensuring that the Society reviews, trains and supports all staff so that they can meet the challenging requirements of their posts. The postholder will also help support the development of a performance management culture in the organisation. </p><p>About you </p><p>You need to be able to demonstrate how you have successfully overseen personnel systems in a comparable context. You will have the first rate communication skills required in order to liaise effectively with staff, trustees, volunteers as well as wide range of external organisations. Ideally you will have developed and overseen reviewing systems as well as having recent experience of change management processes . You will be able to provide clear written and face to face advice to a range of users from those with high level understanding of personnel matters through to those with limited knowledge. You will be a good team player who is able to work effectively in a small team in busy and occasionally demanding environment. </p><p>Applications</p><p>The closing date for applications for the post is 2nd June and initial interviews will be held during week commencing 10th June. Email [email protected] Personnel Officer- Sussex Archaeological Society – Summary Terms and Conditions of employment</p><p>Salary: £ 22 000 fte per annum. Post is for 15 hours per week – salary is pro rata based on these hours.</p><p>Location: Bull House, Lewes</p><p>Working pattern: First 3 months post will be full time, subsequent post will be 15 hours per week. Days worked will be agreed with the successful applicant. Time off in lieu will be given when extra hours are worked.</p><p>Holidays: pro rata to 22 days contractual leave plus bank / public holidays.</p><p>Pension: Group Personal Pension Plan which is a joint contributory scheme.</p><p>Probationary period: 3 months</p><p>Notice Requirement: 1 month during probationary period, thereafter 3 months.</p><p>Position is offered initially on a one year basis. The position may be established on a permanent basis after this point. </p><p>Travel expenses: Mileage reimbursed at 40p / mile.</p>
