A RESOLUTION Honoring Frank Ramsey Upon Being Inducted Into the Kentucky High School Basketball

<p>UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 04/06/18 14 REG. SESS. 14 RS BR 2106</p><p>A RESOLUTION honoring Frank Ramsey upon being inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, Frank Ramsey was born on July 13, 1931, in Corydon, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, Frank Ramsey was a basketball standout at Madisonville High School in the late 1940s. He led the Maroons to back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in 1948 and 1949, and earned all-state honors in both those seasons; and WHEREAS, Frank Ramsey went on to star with the University of Kentucky and the National Basketball Association's Boston Celtics. As a member of Adolph Rupp's national-championship winning 1951 Kentucky team, Mr. Ramsey averaged 10 points and 13 rebounds per game. He would be a key contributor on two more strong UK squads, and in his senior year he was co-captain on the 1953-1954 team that won 25 games without a single loss. He was selected as an All-American in 1952 and 1954. As a member of the University of Kentucky baseball team, he earned All-SEC honors in 1951, 1952, and 1953; and WHEREAS, Frank Ramsey spent two years in the military before joining the Boston Celtics. In his eight seasons in Boston, Mr. Ramsey was part of an incredible eight Eastern Division and seven NBA championship teams, joining such NBA greats as John Havlicek, K.C. Jones, and Bill Russell as the backbone of a Celtics dynasty that has been unmatched to this day; and </p><p>WHEREAS, as a testament to Frank Ramsey's storied career, he has been inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. The 16-member class includes such Kentucky greats as Jack Givens, Vernon Hatton, and Todd May. The class is the third class of inductees, and the total number of inductees in the Hall now stands at 49; and WHEREAS, this honorable body congratulates Frank Ramsey upon his induction into the Kentucky High School Hall of Fame. SESS. 14 RS BR 2106</p><p> become one of the more decorated athletes ever to grace a basketball court in this great Commonwealth, and his induction into the Hall is a rightful testament to the indelible mark he left upon the sport of basketball in Kentucky; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:</p><p>Section 1. The Senate hereby honors Frank Ramsey upon being inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame, acknowledges his achievements at the University of Kentucky, and wishes him the best of luck as he continues a life well-lived.</p><p>Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Frank Ramsey.</p><p> Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Jerry P.
