Jersey Central Power & Light Presents $10,000 Grant to Institute for Sustainable Enterprise

<p>Press Contact: Gretchen Johnson (201) 692 7032 Fairleigh Dickinson University College at Florham Campus 285 Madison Avenue Madison, NJ 07940</p><p>Institute for Sustainable Enterprise at FDU Receives a $10,000 FirstEnergy Foundation Grant Presented by Jersey Central Power & Light</p><p>Madison, NJ (August 17, 2006) — The FirstEnergy Foundation has provided a $10,000 grant to the Institute for Sustainable Enterprise (ISE), Silberman College of Business, Fairleigh Dickinson University supporting the design, development and implementation of programs. The FirstEnergy Foundation is funded solely by FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE), parent company of Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L). </p><p>“Promoting economic development, advancing professional development and supporting employee involvement are among the hallmarks of the FirstEnergy Foundation’s commitment to helping communities across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio,” said Everton Scott, JCP&L area manager. “The Institute for Sustainable Enterprise at Fairleigh Dickinson University focuses on these important goals and enhances our ability to make a meaningful contribution across JCP&L’s service area.”</p><p>The grant will help launch ISE programs assisting FDU’s College at Florham in its effort to become more environmentally and socially sustainable. The Institute, established in 2005 within the Silberman College of Business, brings people together in a variety of ways to learn how to develop and lead thriving, sustainable enterprises that are “in and for the world.” ISE conducts research on sustainability-enhancing projects, develops programs, seminars and roundtables to support leaders, managers and students in leading and managing sustainably, and provides services to support concrete sustainability- enhancing projects.</p><p>The Institute for Sustainable Enterprise is led by Silberman College of Business faculty members Joel Harmon and Gerard Farias, and is supported by its co-founders Jeana Wirtenberg, executive liaison and research associate, and Dan Twomey, professor of management. Dr. Harmon said, “The support from FirstEnergy is most rewarding. This grant will enhance the Institute as we continue to focus on the critical role that organizations play in creating societal, economic and environmental sustainability. ISE works to answer two enduring questions — how can we create more sustainable enterprises? and how can we help leaders learn to manage sustainably?”</p><p>The FirstEnergy Foundation provides support to non-profit, tax exempt health and human services agencies; educational organizations; cultural and arts programs and institutions; and civic groups in areas served by FirstEnergy’s seven electric operating companies and in areas where the company has facilities.
