Students will be engaged through a combination of hands-on activities, lecture, guest speakers, role plays and academic work. Authentic business problems will be used to highlight current industry standards and address business needs and trends in the world today. </p><p>This course is Tech Prep College Connections approved and articulated with Bellevue College. Student’s who demonstrate proficiency of the college course competencies with a ‘B’ (3.0) or better grade, may be eligible to earn college credit through the Tech Prep program. Students must register online using the statewide enrollment and reporting system http://sers.techprepwa.org and also are required to pay a non-refundable $46 annual consortium fee to earn college credit through the Tech Prep College Connections program http://pay.techprepcc.org.</p><p>Opportunity to Excel in Career & Technical Education at Mercer Island High School:</p><p>These courses offered through the Business and Marketing Dept. help open students’ minds to solving challenging business problems using skills gained in Math, English and the Social Sciences. The content is based on industry validated standards addressing current business practices, global economics, needs and trends in our world today. Grading Scale:</p><p>93% - 100% = A 87% - 89.9% = B+ 77% - 79.9% = C+ 67% - 69.9% = D+ 90% - 92.9% = A- 83% – 86.9% = B 73% - 76.9% = C 60% - 66.9% = D 80% - 82.9% = B- 70% - 76.9% = C- 59.9% - 0% = F</p><p>Grades & Expectations: </p><p> 65 % Coursework: A variety of methods will be used to assess students’ understanding of the concepts they are learning in class. Teamwork, presentations, essays, quizzes, and project execution provide a holistic assessment of students’ understanding. Participation in class assignments, activities and projects will account for the majority of the grade.  25 % DECA: Preparation for and participation in Mercer Island DECA events is expected as all Intro to Marketing students are part of this dynamic international organization for students. Co-curricular role plays and assessments are integrated into class. All students will participate in the regional conference. Please see dates attached.  10 % Professionalism & Leadership </p><p>Employability Standards: </p><p>Employability skill development for all students is a required, integral part of all Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructional programs. Traits such as punctuality, reliability and teamwork are especially valued by CTE courses due to their importance in the global workplace. Students need to be present to fully participate in course curriculum. </p><p>Leadership Standards:</p><p>Leadership skill development for all students is also a required, integral part of all Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructional programs. CTE students are required to develop leadership skills by taking a lead role where possible in group projects, and by looking for opportunities to serve both their school and local community. </p><p>Participation: </p><p>Students need to be present in order to fully participate in course curriculum. Teams, in particular, are highly dependent on attendance and participation by all team members.</p><p>Plagiarism/Cheating: Cheating and plagiarizing will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will be referred to Administration. This includes emailing assignments to each other or turning in an assignment that has not been completed by you.</p><p>Course Policies:</p><p> All Business Department Computer Lab Expectations must be observed when using computers.  Electronic equipment such as i-phones, i-pods, cell phones are GENERALLY not allowed in class. After one warning, any and all items will be confiscated and given to the front office. From time-to-time, students may use these devices for research purposes, but should ask for explicit instructor permission.  One student may use the restroom at a time. You need to ask permission before leaving.  This class is for Marketing, not time to shop, play games, check personal Facebook pages or surf the net. Computers are to be used to complete class work only.  Absolutely NO FOOD or DRINK around the computers including water. Please complete, detach and turn into the instructor.
