<p>SENIOR WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST</p><p>The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is a bistate public agency responsible for promoting transportation and commerce, operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region including bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, AirTrain systems, and the NY/NJ seaport.</p><p>The Port Authority is seeking to fill a position of Senior Wildlife Biologist in the Aviation Department for it’s Wildlife Programs. The Port Authority’s Aviation Wildlife Programs are responsible for directing and managing all wildlife programs at the agency’s airports. The Senior Wildlife Biologist is responsible for managing the wildlife programs at Port Authority airports to ensure compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and federal, state, and local wildlife regulations.</p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p>This position will assist the Chief Wildlife Biologist/Manager Aviation Wildlife Programs in developing the system wide Wildlife Programs, administer wildlife management contracts at LGA and EWR, maintain airport wildlife permits, identify new technology, management, or process improvements to increase efficiency or reduce costs for airport wildlife control, and conduct or assist with wildlife-related training programs. This position will also be responsible for managing the Port Authority’s wildlife strike database and preparing technical memos and reports on wildlife strikes and management activities. The incumbent will be expected to attend meetings with other agencies as a representative of the Port Authority to discuss wildlife-related issues. They will also work with the airports’ management and represented field staff to implement wildlife policies at the airports.</p><p>REQUIREMENTS: B.S. or B.A. in Wildlife Biology or a closely related field Certified Wildlife Biologist (The Wildlife Society) or qualify as an 486-level wildlife biologist under federal government hiring standards FAA Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist or be able to obtain the qualification within 18 months after hiring; minimum of 2 years experience as a wildlife biologist.</p><p>QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with wildlife strike reporting. Experience with wildlife damage management strategies and techniques. Demonstrated proficiency with bird and mammal identification. Knowledge of firearms and pyrotechnics. Knowledge of 14 USC Part 139 and FAA Advisory Circulars 150/5200-36, 150/5200- 33, and 150/5200-32 preferred. Knowledge of federal and state wildlife laws and regulations. Ability to present technical information to internal staff and other agencies and organizations. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. GIS knowledge and experience; and proficiency with MS Access or other database software preferred.
