Headteacher: Mr Roger Whitewick M.A. B.Ed (Hons)

Monday 22nd of May 2017 Dear Parents and Carers,

Our topic for this block is Street Detectives! We will be finding out all about the town of Trowbridge. We will be thinking about what important buildings there are, what businesses are an important part of Trowbridge life and the geography of Trowbridge and its surroundings. We will also be looking at the history of Trowbridge and how it has changed over the years. As part of this we will look at the role Trowbridge has played in the woollen industry.

We will be visiting Trowbridge Museum as part of our topic and will also go on some walks around Trowbridge to learn about our local surroundings.

Please remember that each week’s home learning activities must be completed and ticked off/signed. It is really important for your child’s education that they are having regular reading and spelling practice. It would also really help your child’s progress in maths if you can practise the skills learnt in class and times tables as often as possible.

Reading is really important to support the Year 1s for their phonics screen and the Y2s for the end of KS1 SATs in May. It is also a really important life skill that will help them in all areas of their learning. With this in mind we would appreciate you ensuring that you read with your child at least 4 times a week to build fluency and ask them comprehension questions to ensure they have understood the text and can retrieve key information.

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school. This includes a white t-shirt, a dark pair of shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a sensible pair of sport shoes (daps or trainers). It is important that your child has something warm to wear when we are having PE outside. Please make sure every item of clothing in your child’s PE kit and school uniform is clearly labelled to avoid items being lost and replaced at your own cost.

Holbrook Lane, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 0PS Telephone (01225) 753708 Fax 01225 350034 www.holbrooktrowbridge.co.uk Key Dates for your Diary: - Tuesday 23rd May- Nightingale and Darwin trip to Stourhead - Thursday 25th May- Great Read trip for 7 Year 2 pupils - Friday 26th May- TD Day (pupils not in school) - 27th May- 4th June Half Term - Monday 5th June Term 6 starts - w/c Monday 12th June- Year 1 Phonics Screen (and Year 2 retakes) - Friday 7th July- Sports day - Friday 21st July- end of Term 6/Block 4

If you have any problems or concerns, please feel free to pop in after school or arrange a time to come in for a chat.

Kind regards,

Miss Smith and Miss Thackray

Holbrook Lane, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 0PS Telephone (01225) 753708 Fax 01225 350034 www.holbrooktrowbridge.co.uk
