<p> Marching Band Syllabus</p><p>Description of Course</p><p>Band is designed for percussion and wind instruments students to have the opportunity to refine their performance skills as individuals and as an ensemble. Each student participant in marching band shall perform as a major part of their development. Performances are a major part of the band performance class and students are expected to participate in all out of school activities. </p><p>Course Standards:</p><p>Each student shall learn basic terminology </p><p> Basic theory including: intervals, key signatures, scales, and chords.</p><p> Learn the history of band music in American Culture. </p><p> Perform a variety of Band Literature. </p><p> Learn to listen analytically to a variety of band music. </p><p> Learn Marching Band fundamentals </p><p>Text:</p><p> I Recommend Book  Yamaha Band Method Book II  Theory and Rhythm Hand Out Sheets  Assigned Band Music</p><p>Supplies:</p><p> Instrument  Text  Reeds  Valve Oil  Cleaning Kit  Tuner  Sharp Pencil  Binder with sheet protectors, paper, manuscript paper. Grading Policy:  Major Work 30 %  4 Exams (Over 9 weeks): 30% *Note: Some performances may count as exams.  Performance: 30%  Homework, Minor Work, and Required Lessons (i.e. assigned literature): 10% Homework: Homework may be submitted/performed within the grading period as the goal is to master the concept. Total failure to submit or perform assigned work will result in a zero. You must attempt to do assigned work. </p><p>Missed Work: Please ask the day that you return to class about missed work. This is your responsibility. You may also ask other students. </p><p>Performances: Attendance at all performances is required. Performances may not be made up. The fall performance schedule is available. </p><p>Progress and 9 weeks grades will be assigned as follows: </p><p> 90-100 points: A</p><p> 80-89 points: B</p><p> 70-79 points: C</p><p> 60-69 points: D</p><p> 59- below: F </p><p>Possible Projects</p><p>Performances:</p><p> 10 football games</p><p> 5 Parades</p><p> 2 Pep Rallies</p><p> 1 or 2 Marching festivals</p><p> 1st Quarter, 2nd quarter Concerts</p><p> Listening Assignments Proposed Course Outline</p><p>First-Second Semester</p><p>I Topics/Concepts: </p><p> Study and perform a variety of band Music  Study time signatures, including compound and simple meters notation of rhythm in these time signature and major-minor keys.  Study of music history, songs being studied in class, artists and composers.  Listen and analyze a variety of band music  Perform publications  Variety of Band Music  Final Exam</p><p>II Resources:  Band Music  Hand Outs</p><p>III Major Assignments  Music Memory (4 Tests)  Homework assignments as needed for practice. </p>
