<p>MEDA ECONOMIC GARDENING WORKING GROUP Conference Call January 26, 2011 10:00am</p><p>ON THE CALL: Marcy Allen (Chair), Julie Jaksha, Julie Foster, Anne Boothe, Kim Morisaki and Gloria O’Rourke</p><p>INTRODUCTIONS Marcy Allen asked for introductions and for each person to share why they are interested in Economic Gardening. BREDD recently published an RFP to develop an Economic Gardening Strategy for their region including Mineral, Ravalli and Missoula counties.</p><p>OVERVIEW Marcy Allen shared a powerpoint file that provided an overview of Economic Gardening (EG). The presentation covered a definition of EG, role of small business in Montana’s economy, the history of EG, characteristics of the EG model, infrastructure investment, business connections, existing programs and partnerships. Note: view http://www.youreconomy.org</p><p>PURPOSE OF WORKING GROUP DISCUSSION 1. Raise general awareness among economic developers, share information about the process. 2. Grow Economic Gardening in Montana and possibly build a plan for the state. 3. Possibly provide a discussion or facilitator’s guide for starting an economic gardening group in your area. 4. Provide Montana companies with access to competitive intelligence; provide a prototype for Montana’s government to use. 5. Billings, Great Falls, Missoula, Bozeman and Butte SBDC’s are involved in Peerspective training which involves Phase II companies. It is one part of EG. 6. Share EG experiences – from basics to current activities in the state and around the region.</p><p>ACTION ITEMS: 1. Gloria to investigate if there are models of EG using ExecutivePulse? 2. Hold a conference call or webinar with Chris Gibbons and MEDA’s membership – Gloria to contact Chris. 3. Handouts on EG during MEDA conference 4. Share online links, video clips regarding EG – place on our EG webpage and share with MEDA membership; place in newsletter as well. 5. What are our local resources – start understanding what you have and who potential users are and where gaps exist 6. Utilize results of BREDD report (in approximately 6 months.) 7.
