<p> Video Production and Broadcast Journalism Mr. Krupp drew.krupp @ r t sd . o rg</p><p>Course Description: This year long alternating day, project-based course will introduce students to video </p><p> production and broadcast journalism. Students will move forward from learning basic video </p><p> production methods to creating segments for RadTV. In addition, students will learn </p><p> broadcasting methods using state-of-the-art video, audio, and broadcasting equipment. </p><p>Students will actively learn and participate in broadcasting shows, learning roles such as </p><p> audio technician, on-air talent, camera operator, floor managers, teleprompter controllers, </p><p> technical directors, and directors. </p><p>Students will work on advanced, long-term projects such as, but not limited to, college entry </p><p> videos, large scale montages, academic department promotional videos, community field </p><p> reports, and after school major recordings such as plays, concerts, athletic events, and </p><p> fundraisers. TIME WILL BE REQUIRED AFTER SCHOOL TO FILM EVENTS.</p><p>Equipment</p><p> 1”-1½” Three Ring Binder with pockets OR a folder with pockets for any handouts  Computers with video editing software  Video Cameras  Microphones  Headphones</p><p>Attendance Video Production and Broadcast Journalism is different than most academic courses because not everyone has the computer software at home. When a student is absent or late it is difficult to make up class time, learn from teachable moments, demonstrations, and opportunities to ask questions. Students are encouraged to come in during free periods and study halls to make up missed time. </p><p>Students are required to film events after normal school hours. It is important that students understand that they will be required to attend after school events and to record events for editing and production.</p><p>Grading Grades are based on class work, and projects. Projects are weighted based on difficulty and amount of time needed to complete the task.</p><p>Students will be given ample time to complete all assignments. Late work will incur a 5% deduction per day it is late. Students with extenuating circumstances should discuss them with me in advance of due dates.</p><p>HAC Updates – Grades will be updated at a minimum of every three weeks. Any grade that is marked with an “X” is one that has been handed in but has yet to be graded.</p><p>Class Participation</p><p>It is imperative that students maximize their in class work time. Students found not to be working during class, or doing work for another class will lose part or their entire weekly participation grade.</p><p>Unit Outline Each unit will build on top of the next, as students will gradual learn more skills toward video production. Basic camera skills will be taught first, followed by editing and production skills. </p><p>Unit 1: Scriptwriting Unit 2: Speaking Skills Unit 3: Video Editing Unit 4: Equipment Operation</p>
