Future Murray State coach Carlisle Cutchin was a member of that team. * 1959 was the first year of playoffs in Kentucky ** If a non-championship playoff game ended in a tie, the team with better statistics was declared the winner. one point was awarded for most penetrations of the opponents 20-yard line, one point for most first downs, and one point for most net yardage If it were still a tie, the team with most net yardage was declared the winner.

Coach Preston “Ty” Holland, born in 1906, native of Murray, graduated from Murray High (1924) and Murray State; coached all sports at Almo High School in Calloway County 1928-29; spent the next year working in the family hardware store; then starting coaching all sports at Murray High. He stayed with football the longest: 1930-1972. His 43-year record of 249-159-28 ranks him among Kentucky’s winningest coaches.

2007: Schools were divided into six classes (instead of 4;) Murray moved up to 2-A.
