<p> Year 3/4 Spellings</p><p>Within our spelling lessons, we will be teaching the children a specific sound or rule each week; these rules will be tested in our Friday spelling tests. We would like the children to learn a minimum of five words from that rule but we will also ask the children 5 ‘new’ words where they can apply what they have learnt. Below are the words that we would like the children to learn each week. </p><p>Year 3 Year 4 Spelling Test</p><p> k: que ir Words ending with the /k/ sound Before a root word starting with r, in– spelt –que becomes ir–. technique irrational 18/11/16 Week 1: 14/11/16 cheque irregular unique irresistible critique antique s:sc Words with the /s/ sound spelt The suffix –ation is added to verbs to form sc (Latin in origin) nouns. The rules already learnt still apply. 25/11/16 scenario Information preparation Week 2: 21/11/16 scenery adoration investigation science fascinate sensation frustration scissors ay:ei If the root word ends with –ic, –ally is added Words with the /eɪ/ sound spelt rather than just –ly, except in the word ei, eigh, or ey publicly. 02/12/16 vein automatically critically Week 3: 28/11/16 logically magically abseil mechanically medically beige rein veil ay: eigh The suffix –ous –our is changed to –or weigh before –ous is added.
