Quick, Light-weight, Doubled Toque

Knit on my SK-700 Punchcard Knitting Machine. Yarn, 2/24 Acrylic., 1 strand. Gauge- 8 stitches/10.5 rows.

Head Circumference—21 in [22 in]

Tension 5—EON “e”wrap cast-on over 168 stitches [176 stitches]. R/C000—Knit to R/C 12. Bring the out of work needles to working position [I pull all needles to “D” or “E” position for the first row].

R/C 000—Knit to R/C 40. Knit a 6 row stripe with a 2nd color [if desired]. Knit to R/C 220. {If less cuff desired, knit 178 rows.].

Transfer EOS to the needle beside it [2 stitches on every other needle, empty needles out of work]. Knit to R/C 12. Take off on yarn tail.

Assembly: To take off on yarn tail, a strong, unbreakable, matching yarn is recommended. [I use Nylon Omega Crochet Thread. Also, Microtamm]. On the cast-on edge, pick up the loops from the cast-on on another yarn tail. Do not pull the yarn tails at this time. Fold the hat with right sides together and stitch the seam. [I crochet with matching yarn]. Then pull the ends of the hat to each other forming a tube. [The ends are now touching each other. Pull the inner yarn tail tight and tie it firmly. Then pull the outer yarn tail tight and tie it. Then tie the two yarn tails together. Pull the yarn tails inside the two layers to hide them, and shake the hat hard. The hat is now reversible. Fold up a cuff or not, as desired.—

Notes: The hat is knit with an 8 in body, 2.5 in. cuff, plus the 1 inch decrease at the top. It is very stretchy, so do not add any more ease. Any ends or fairisle floats will be hidden between the layers, so no ends to finish. On my 2nd hat, I used a cotton yarn for the yarn tail and it broke, leaving me with 176 stitches all ready to ravel.
