<p> New Galleries, New Audiences engage International Summer School 2011 21-24 June, Ljubljana, Slovenia</p><p> engage International Summer School is for experienced gallery educators, artists, curators and academics. This peer-led event represents a significant opportunity for colleagues at a similar stage in their careers to work together to: • Reflect on aspects of current practice in gallery education • Review current research and political agendas • Consider the positioning of gallery education within the cultural sector • Learn about international contexts for gallery education • Network with UK and international colleagues</p><p>This year’s engage Summer School will be hosted by Moderna galerija in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Visits will include a glimpse into the city’s (not yet open) new museum of contemporary art, based in an-ex army barracks and forming part of the city’s new ‘museums quarter’. Delegates will also have the chance to visit the new Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, in neighbouring Croatia.</p><p>Ljubljana is four hours from Venice by bus, so easily combined with a visit to the Venice Biennale before or after Summer School. </p><p>Programme Delegates will visit venues and art spaces in Ljubljana and Zagreb, meeting colleagues and hearing about gallery education practice in Slovenia and Croatia, as well as seeing new venues. A keynote speaker will stimulate debate, and other sessions will be devised and facilitated by members of the group.</p><p>Summer School will explore the challenges faced by new galleries in developing new audiences. Questions posed will include:  How can new galleries work with new audiences in their neighbourhood?  How can relationships with community groups be established and maintained?  What are the challenges posed by being placed in a residential setting?  What happens to a city and its residents when an area is designated as a ‘museum quarter’?  What can we learn from international models, or are solutions country-specific?  How can learning and best practice be shared internationally?</p><p>We look forward to workshops, arts activities, updates on academic research and discussions facilitated by you, the participants. </p><p>Application Process There will be a maximum of 30 delegates at Summer School. Participation is sought from those who describe themselves as mid-career or senior (or equivalent), who are passionate about gallery education. You may be working in gallery education in one of several ways: leading or part of an education team based in a gallery; as an artist; as an academic; or as a curator or director with a strong commitment to education. </p><p>1 To support the Summer School’s peer-led philosophy, we invite colleagues to outline what their contribution to a session would be: an activity, workshop or discussion of an academic paper in progress, or participating in sessions run by colleagues. </p><p>To apply, please send</p><p> A completed application form (click here to download)  Your CV </p><p>Applications should be sent to [email protected] by 10am on Monday 21 March 2011. Applications must be made to Grundtvig no later than 11 April 2011.  If you wish to apply to Grundtvig please let engage know when you submit your Summer School application – we will then provide the information you need to complete your funding application.  European members (excluding those based in Slovenia) will be eligible for Grundtvig funding according to the criteria set by their national agencies.
