<p> Learning Studio Learning Assistant Program</p><p>Center for Student Academic Success Learning Assistant Job Description </p><p>The Center for Student Academic Success (CSAS) is seeking peer learning assistants for the purpose of fostering independent learning and thinking to enhance academic performance and self- regulation of peers. The goal is to assist students in developing strategies that will help strengthen their knowledge, develop transferable learning skills, and achieve academic success. Learning Assistants will engage students in both one-to-one tutoring, small group tutoring -- and if comfortable -- via group learning strategy workshops.</p><p>As a peer, you will be an ally with the students, a teammate who guides or coaches students by sharing skills and knowledge, as well as by communicating confidence and encouragement. You will serve as an example, demonstrating how to successfully approach academic challenges. </p><p>Upon successful completion of training and certification, Learning Assistants will meet regularly with students. Learning Assistants will track, assess and evaluate the progress of their students and of themselves. </p><p>Academic Qualifications:  Good academic standing  Good student conduct record  Passed a minimum of two content courses with a grade of 3.0 or better in the department for which the candidate desires to tutor, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher  Clearance by two faculty members or a faculty member and chair in the content area  Two or more semesters of coursework at GU (minimum: 24 credits) </p><p>Personal Qualifications:  Patience and sensitivity toward students  Ability to convey knowledge clearly via spoken and written word  Ability to maintain confidentiality  Good organizational skills  Punctuality </p><p>Duties:  Assess instructional needs of students, including learning strengths and challenges, and informally evaluate performance of students  Establish immediate and continuing rapport with students  Track progress in individual, group, and workshop sessions via program evaluation forms  Be knowledgeable of campus resources available to students and refer as needed  Attend all required meetings with CSAS staff members  Participate in certification and weekly training sessions  Assist CSAS staff with special projects and/or clerical duties Center for Student Academic Success Foley Library 509-313-4072 www.gonzaga.edu/aaa www.gonzaga.edu/disabilityaccess www.gonzaga.edu/learningstrategies </p>
