Deceased is Spc. Cory A. Hubbell, 20, of Urbana, Ill., a Carpentry and Masonry Specialist with B Company, 46th Engineer Battalion. Wednesday evening Hubbell experienced breathing difficulties and was transported to a medical facility at Camp Arifjan, where he died. The cause of death is under investigation by Army medical and command officials. Hubbell deployed with his unit to Kuwait on Feb. 10 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. "We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Specialist Cory Hubbell," said Lt. Col. James Bullinger, command spokesperson. “Our hearts, thoughts, prayers and support go out to his family, friends and fellow soldiers during this time of grief and sorrow,” said Bullinger. Hubbell enlisted in June 2001 after graduating from Urbana High School. He attended basic training and combat engineering training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and was assigned to Fort Rucker on Nov. 5, 2001. During his two years of service to the nation Hubbell was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. “Specialist Hubbell was deployed is support of the global war on terrorism and was helping to make a difference and a safer world for all,” said Bullinger. A memorial service will be held by his unit at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait on Saturday.</p><p>- 30 -</p>
