C. the Following Equipment and Services Identified As High Risk Shall Be Included

<p> Policy and Procedure Manual</p><p>Engineering Services – Essential Equipment Failure C-012</p><p>SUBJECT/TITLE: Essential Equipment Failure</p><p>PURPOSE: To establish action plan for equipment and major utility failure.</p><p>A. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics requires written procedures shall be developed that specify the action to be taken during the failure of essential equipment and major utility services. The written procedures shall include a call system for summoning essential personnel and outside assistance when required.</p><p>B. The Joint Commission requires that written procedures shall be developed that specify the action to be taken during the failure of essential equipment and major utility services. The written procedures shall include a call system for summoning essential personnel and outside assistance when required.</p><p>C. The following equipment and services identified as high risk shall be included:</p><p>1. Electrical power services 2. Major air conditioning and heating equipment 3. Air handling systems 4. Steam delivery 5. Natural Gas delivery 6. Chilled water delivery 7. Water supply 8. Waste disposal systems 9. Medical gas and vacuum systems 10. Vertical transport</p><p>D. Qualified engineering consultative advice and/or contractor assistance will be available as needed.</p><p>E. The Director of Engineering Services, Assistant Director of Engineering Services, on-call Engineering Services supervisor or appropriate Engineering Supervisor shall always be notified when a disruption of essential equipment or service occurs. In the event of his/her absence the next level of departmental responsibility such as the Lead personnel in the appropriate section will contact Hospital Administration to inform and update them of the situation.</p><p>C012- Essential Equipment Failure Page 1 of 3 F. In the event that departmental personnel cannot correct the problem and restore operation(s) of the equipment, then the Director of Engineering, Assistant Director of Engineering Services, Engineering Supervisors or On-Call Engineering Services supervisor shall have full authorization to call in an outside resource to correct the situation.</p><p>G. The Engineering Services call list is attached and kept current by the Engineering Services main office. The call-list is provided to all Engineering Services staff within each Supervisor On-Call Manual and in each section’s area.</p><p>I. Related and Supporting Documentation</p><p>1.
