The new body is responsible for ensuring that qualifications and the qualifications system are effective in meeting the reasonable needs of learners in Wales, and for promoting public confidence in these. </p><p>Qualifications Wales has a publicly appointed Chair and Board who is accountable for the fulfilment of Qualifications Wales’ statutory functions and of its obligations to Welsh Government as a Welsh Government Sponsored Body. The Board agree the strategic direction and governance of the organisation and the Executive Team (comprising the Chief Executive and the three Executive Directors) are responsible for the development and implementation of the strategic and operational plans. </p><p>Job Purpose</p><p>The Translator will primarily provide a written translation service for Qualifications Wales but will also assist in spoken and aural translation when required to support our commitment to delivering in both Welsh and English languages.</p><p>As a regulator, some of our language may be technical or include complex concepts, the Translator will ensure that the language is accurate and delivered in an appropriate tone of voice for the relevant audience.</p><p>2 Qualifications Wales Translator</p><p>Main duties  Translating Qualifications Wales documents from English to Welsh. These will include policy documents, letters, press releases, newsletters, etc.</p><p> Translating external documents such as letters, press reports, etc. from Welsh to English.</p><p> Providing advice to all colleagues on the correct use of Welsh.</p><p> Maintaining a complete record of translation requests made by Qualifications Wales staff.</p><p> Liaising with an external translation company, when appropriate, and completing purchase orders.</p><p> Proof-read copy prepared by any external translation company.</p><p> Engage and brief simultaneous translators for Qualifications Wales meetings.</p><p> Help to create and maintain the Qualifications Wales style guide and maintain a list of Welsh terms.</p><p> Translate confidential documents (which may be in relation to HR issues) and sensitive statistical information</p><p> Ensure a high standard of Welsh in all Qualifications Wales printed and online material, including booklets, leaflets, posters, the website, social media and videos.</p><p> Work with colleagues within the organisation to support the application of the Welsh Language Standards and to aid the development of employee’s Welsh language skills.</p><p> Work flexibly, performing any other duties as required, where relevant to the post and appropriate to the grade. </p><p>3 Qualifications Wales Translator</p><p>Person specification</p><p>Essential Desirable Good general level of education as A member of the Qualifications evidenced by qualifications – especially Association of those demonstrating a high level of literacy Welsh Translators and numeracy. and Interpreters Role relevant qualification (where this is not held the successful candidate would be supported to obtain membership  Professional translation experience, Experience of Experience written and verbal. working within the  Managing work and taking decisions public based on presentation of material in sector/Education context and an appropriate format would be an advantage.</p><p> Fluency in Welsh and English, both Knowledge and Knowledge written and verbal skills. understanding of the education landscape and educational terms would be an advantage.</p><p>Awareness and understanding of the Welsh public sector.</p><p>Knowledge of Déjà vu translation software  Attention to detail and the ability to Ability to Skills ensure a high standard of work (in communicate/work particular written work), accurate proof through the reading skills. medium of Welsh</p><p>4 Qualifications Wales Translator</p><p> Able to express corporate ‘tone of voice’ in the Welsh medium  Good communicator able to inform and influence at all levels and engage with a range of stakeholders.  Able to work independently or in the context of a team.  Ability to remain current, continually learn and share good practice.  Ability to plan, prioritise and work flexibly to meet changing demands.  Able to take responsibility for own work and to work effectively under pressure.</p><p>5</p>
