Moving Mountains Trust

MOVING MOUNTAINS TRUST VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PACK

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Moving Mountains Trust. This pack will help you to complete your application and explain a few of the details before you start your trip.

The Moving Mountains Trust is a charity that is registered in the UK and also in the locations where we carry out our project work. In a lot of these locations it will be referred to as a Non Governmental Organisation, or NGO. The difference in name only really concerns the way in which the organisation is registered and the fact that it is not controlled by a government agency. To all intents and purposes it will be acting in the same way as a UK charity would.

When a trip is undertaken in support of the Moving Mountains Trust, we need a lot of things to be done to look after our volunteers. For example, the volunteers need to be transported around the country, they need to be fed, given accommodation and generally looked after. All of this organisational and logistical work needs to be done by a fully registered company, which is Adventure Alternative.

Adventure Alternative is in a unique position to be able to look after volunteers from the Moving Mountains Trust. The company was founded by the same person, Gavin Bate, who founded the charity. Also, many of the staff who now work for Adventure Alternative in places like Kenya, were sponsored and supported through their education by Moving Mountains.

So this means that, while on a trip, the people looking after the volunteers can give them real-life and first-hand stories and knowledge of what the charity does and what it achieves. Adventure Alternative also underwrites and actively supports the charity by undertaking a large proportion of its administration, for free.

Adventure Alternative is a UK-based adventure travel company. It is a registered member of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and is financially bonded by the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust (ABTOT). It has also been independently audited and declared compliant with British Standard 8848, Specification for the provision of visits, fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the United Kingdom. All of this means that whilst on the trip, your money, your safety and your enjoyment is being taken care of by an experienced professional organisation.

The following pages are the information that we require from you to complete a volunteering application. First of all we need to make sure that you know what the trip involves and that we are the right organisation for you and your aspirations. We have lots of information available on our website and we have further information available if you do not find what you are looking for.
