U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Energy and Water Audits Alchesay and Williams Creek National Fish Hatcheries

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is conducting energy and water audits at several of its facilities. Facility Engineering Associates (FEA) performed energy audits at the Alchesay National Fish Hatchery in Navajo, Arizona and the Willams Creek National Fish Hatchery in Apache County, Arizona. The assessments covered the 24 energy consuming buildings. Buildings ranged in age with the oldest facility dating back to 1835 to 2004.

The primary focus of these assessments was to analyze energy and water use and evaluate potential energy and water-saving opportunities for improved efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. This is part of a larger requirement for Federal facilities to comply with Section 432 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), and subsequently issued Section 543 of the National Energy Conservation Policy Act, subsection Use of Energy and Water Efficiency Measures in Federal Buildings (42 USC 8253(f)). Water and energy conservation efforts must also be in compliance with Executive Orders (EO)13423 Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management and EO 13514, Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance.

As part of the audits, FEA analyzed the energy and water consumption across all types of buildings and use categories and recommended various energy conservation measures (ECMs) that included both capital projects and building operational measures.
