Because of Past Abuses and the Potential for Future Abuses, the Practice of Requesting

Rush items

Because of past abuses and the potential for future abuses, the practice of requesting rush processing is not encouraged and will be modified if abuses start to occur again. However, there are occasional rush items, and procedures for handling them are as follows:

 The item will arrive from Acquisitions with a rush slip in it specifying the name of the liaison for whom the rush item is intended

 The Cataloging Associate will process the item as soon as she can after receiving the item

 Once the item is processed, the Cataloger or Cataloging Assistant will notify the liaison. The liaison or cataloging personnel may notify the requestor (depending on the wishes of the liaison)

 Once rush items ordered by the Music Librarian are processed, the Cataloger will contact the Music Librarian; if the item is to go on reserve in the Main Library, it will be taken to the Circulation Desk to be handled by the instructor. The Music Librarian will be asked to contact the instructor that the item is there waiting for him or her. All other rush items ordered by the Music Librarian will be sent to the Music Library via campus mail in a jiffy bag.
