Student Review Questions for the What Are Your Strengths

Student Explanation of the Feature, and Review Questions for the “What Are Your Strengths?” Feature

We are considering a new feature—“What Are Your Strengths?”—for the forthcoming new edition of David Myers’ introductory psychology text. This feature would allow students to test their own level of development of certain key strengths that are tied into the content discussions in the text. For example, in the Development chapter you might assess the attachment style you have established with your parents, and relate that to your current style of attachment in romantic relationships, or in the Learning Chapter you might assess your ability to consider future consequences of your behavior and relate that to your current health and awareness.

Please take a look at the attached sample copy before answering the following questions.

1. Do you think it is a good idea to include this new feature in our introductory psychology text? Why or why not? 2. We will probably have 10-12 total “What Are Your Strengths?” features in the new text. If you like this idea, do you think that is about the right number, or do you think we should have more or less of them? 3. The authors are hoping that this feature would help make the chapter concepts more meaningful, memorable, and interesting for students. Please try completing a few of the activities in the attached sample. Do you think this feature would indeed be beneficial for future students in the introductory psychology course? Did you enjoy completing the sample activities? Why or why not? 4. As a student in an introductory course, do you think you would complete these activities if they were not assigned by your instructor?
