CRAWFORD, JR., OF 12 AIKEN COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 13 SEVENTYFIFTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM MUCH 14 HAPPINESS IN THE FUTURE. 15 16 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 17 Representatives are delighted to learn that Harold A. Crawford, Jr., 18 of Aiken County celebrated his seventyfifth birthday on July 14, 19 2017; and 20 21 Whereas, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 14, 1942, the young 22 Harold came into this world, in the middle of World War II, and 23 just before the start of the Golden Age of Capitalism, a period of 24 economic prosperity in the midtwentieth century which lasted until 25 the 1970s; and 26 27 Whereas, as a young man, Mr. Crawford proudly served his 28 country for two years as a member of the United States Army 29 Special Forces. After serving in the armed forces, he demonstrated 30 a commitment to working to ensure public safety and fighting 31 corruption throughout his professional career; and 32 33 Whereas, he worked as an officer in the New York City Police 34 Department (NYPD) for twentythree years, providing expertise in 35 multifaceted criminal investigations and technical support for the 36 department. He rose to the prestigious rank of Detective First 37 Grade; and 38 39 Whereas, while a NYPD detective, Harold Crawford lectured to 40 various law enforcement agencies and was a member of the 41 executive board of the New York chapter of the National 42 Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He</p><p>[4573] 1 1 also is a member of the NYPD Honor Legion and is a life member 2 of the NYPD Guardians Association; and 3 4 Whereas, in July 1989, Harold Crawford left the NYPD and joined 5 the Office of Inspector General/Metropolitan Transportation 6 Authority (MTA) as a first investigative technical specialist. He 7 rose to the rank of assistant deputy inspector general in charge of 8 the Investigative Technical Support Unit, working on behalf of 9 nearly four million commuters in the greater New York 10 metropolitan area; and 11 12 Whereas, after retiring from the MTA and moving to Aiken 13 County, he became involved in politics. In 2003, he began working 14 with the Aiken County Democratic Party (ACDP) as an alternative 15 executive committeeman. He later served as first vice chair and 16 currently serves as chair of the ACDP; and 17 18 Whereas, under his leadership, the ACDP has grown in both 19 membership and activities. The ACDP now has two annual 20 fundraisers, a Democratic Women’s Club, and a North Augusta 21 Democratic Club. The party fields candidates in major races in the 22 Aiken County area with the goal to organize all of the precincts; 23 and 24 25 Whereas, in addition to his work with the ACDP, Harold Crawford 26 serves as deacon at Second Baptist Church. He also is a member of 27 the Concerned Ministers Fellowship; and 28 29 Whereas, he serves on the executive board of the Aiken County 30 Chapter of the NAACP and is a life member of the national 31 organization. He also is a member of the American Legion Post 32 212 in Aiken and is a life member of the American Legion national 33 organization; and 34 35 Whereas, he has been married to the lovely R.D. “Bunni” 36 Crawford for fortyseven years, and they have one wonderful 37 daughter, Courtney N. Crawford. He remains greatly loved and 38 respected by those who know him, and it is an honor to join with 39 his family and friends in celebrating this milestone birthday.
